I've been hearing a lot about this place, and last night, when the craving for a Chicken Vindaloo came over me, I decided to go and find the India Hut.
Was a bit cautious at first, as it looks a bit like a cafe rather than a restaurant, but never mind, in I went.
Not a massive menu but everything to make up a good Indian bloat out.
Ordered Onion Bhaji, Chicken Vindaloo, Sag Aloo, Rice and a Butter Nam.
Was surprised that the Onion Bhaji came Indian Style and not the Onion Bhaji 'balls' you would normally get in UK. Also very surprised that it came with the sour tamarind chutney, that you seem to get with every meal in India, but hardly ever see in the UK.
The vindaloo, potato and rice were superb, the most authentic Indian food I have had in Thailand. The vindaloo could have been a little hotter in taste, but it's been so long since I had a good sit down curry I didn't mind.
I'd give the place 9/10 for food and 5/10 for setting.
10/10 for price though, all the above with a large bottle of Leo for 340 baht.
Also good to see the Tailor shop Indians coming in to collect take aways, always a good sign when the local Indians also eat there.
Now I know it's there, and it's good, I can see myself eating Indian Curry at least twice a week now. In fact, I might even go again tonight. _________________ Per Angusta In Augusta.

I would like to go and find the India Hut too. I love Indian food and have not had any for months now.
I went back and read the entire thread and I still do not have any idea where this place is. For starters, I dont know the names of the bars around Bintabat ( I have never been into one despite the frequent invitations "Hello, Daddy!, Welcome! etc)) ) and the only street I regularly walk up is Bintabat itself on my way to to and from the Hilton. I do recognize the names of a few bars but "where the ship used to be" is no help at all.
So if I am standing at the temple "soi"/walkway facing up Bintabat toward the Hilton. How would I get to India Hut? |

Chas,
Turn to your left, go past Crawfords and keep going to the end of that Soi. Almost opposite, (slightly to the left), is another Soi, go down there about the third shop on the left is the India Hut. _________________ Per Angusta In Augusta.

JD - sounds great. Do you know what time it is open until? Sounds like a great take away venue after a few beers.
Having only a few options on the menu doesn't put me off. Concentrating on only a few dishes makes it more likely they taste better. |

Not 100% sure. It's got a sign on the door, but I can't remember if it said 10.00 pm or 11.00 pm.

Why can't people give directions properly? From all the posts I gather it is in Soi Poolsuk. Soi Poolsuk is in at least two parts. The one part everybody knows is between Dechanuchit and and Damnoern Kasem. The bit referred to here runs from Dechanuchit to Chom Sin and has the Doghouse and Top Marks in it.
Do not be fooled by addresses. They are very often not the same as the street where the front entrance of the property is.
So is it true to say that the Curry Restaurant is in Soi Poolsuk between Dechanuchit and Chom Sin? AND, is it on the same side as the Doghouse and Top Marks.
Many of the the items mentioned are not Indian so no surprise they are not on the menu.
Bombay Duck has been made illegal by the WWF. The Bombay Duck is a very small member of the Duck family and is only found in the Bombay area of India. It only measure 4 inches from head to tail. To satisfy the cravings of westerners, they used to catch the very tame endangered duck and force feed it rotten squid and anchovies for six weeks before putting it through a laundry mangle. The feather were then removed and the bird was dried in salt for three months in the Bombay sun to enrich the flavour.
It was only edible after ten pints of Tetley's. _________________

At what point did the duck die?

I spotted that but it was very blurred on my monitor but when I got it from the host site it was fine.
Anyway my directions were correct and it is on the opposite side of the road from Doghouse and Top Marks.
Just a point, here. Some of you may know the answer. Somebody posted they were Nepalese. When I have got talking to Indians about town they always seem to be Nepalese including the mob that forked out 15 Million Baht for Toby's place. I was told that the Nepalese bit is just a rich man's back door route from India to Thailand.
If that is true you might find yours truly turning Nepalese and opening an Indian Restaurant.

Depends upon how fit the bird was after it was mangled. Many can survive two months being hung out in the Sun but most die within two weeks. The salt and the stench of urine and faeces from toilet next door kills 'em.
A real connoisseur from Bradford, West Yorkshire can estimate the time of death to within two days with only 5 pints of John Smith's. Of course the taste buds are rendered totally useless for anything else. _________________

The thread below has reminded me of a bit more to the Bombay Duck story. In Yorkshire, the cultural home of the Duck, the ban on its import has caused the local Indian Restaurateurs to find an alternative. In Yorkshire the closest they could find was the Yorkshire Tyke other wise known as the Yorkshire Terrorist. It is about the same size as the Duck and already stinks before any processing is done. A Yorkshire businessman and restaurant owner, Sidhu Kumar said that his customer could not tell the difference.
Many are imported from London where they are thrown out in the rubbish with the rest of the Christmas decorations.

After such great comments about the Indian Hut I went with 4 friends.
The price was great and all the vegetarian food very good , however the chicken dishes had a red additive which I did not like.  |
