Hi all,
Been a bad year for JW's, high point being the HHAD party which was great fun. Bottom line was that the partners couldnt work together, wont go into detail cause its water under the bridge.
A new partner has come in with good intentions, ideas and some baht also!! The bar has been redesigned and will be fully renovated over the next month to give a much more open and airy feel. We will remain a family friendly bar, with great music and service (something that has been lacking because of a lack of numbers). We will shortly introduce a menu offering good quality pub grub at good prices.
Not sure whether to rename the place, any thoughts (for or against changing) or ideas for a new name will be taken on board and be greatly appreciated! If someone comes up with a great name which we decide to use, i will put a grand (in baht!) behind the bar for them to drink!
Cheers

Reckon you should keep the name. But in the event you don't, "Stroll On" is in keeping with the theme.
That's not rude in Aussie, is it? _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

BarryJohn's might be apt but I think Johnnie Walkers has a ring to it and the name should be kept. |

BarryJohns is naff.
There is no need to change the name of a bar that has always had a good reputation. Also it is an unnecessary cost. The sign alone will set you back about 8000 Baht (a bit less if I do it). This money could be put to much better use like painting the wall opposite.
It now has the status of a governmet building or well known landmark. Thais and Farangs alike refer to the whole Soi as Soi Johnnie Walker because of the confusion of street names in that area. At one time it was Soi Coconuts.
If the name was changed I think it would become Soi Oi in Thai or even Soi Sugar Cane. I don't think I could live with that prospect.
Johnnie Walker's is a great name and should be kept. _________________

As someone once said ( F£$%^d if I know who ) " if it aint broke dont fix it " I dont know the ins and outs of it all but when I was there it was always a good night out. Always made welcome and you could always fill ya face on sunday with a top roast dinner. Had a good reputation around town as well ( not ripped off, hassled by bar girls etc ) I wish you all well in the coming season and hope to drop in near Xmas. See ya all soon Dunc |

JW, the name is fine but have you fixed the bar football table yet? _________________ "The man who never made a mistake never did bugger all" - Old Welsh proverb

I was first to say keep it as is despite the fact I gave up the opportunity for a lucrative sign making contract. Can I have the grand?

More important than a new name would be new beers. I haven't been to JW when I have been in HH; but will stop in when I get to HH in Sept./Oct.
What will you have on tap by then? And chance of someting unique for HH?
It is hot and humid here in CA today, kind of like Thailand -- pretty unusual. St. Pauli Girl is going down real easy

Thanks for the input everyone, my gut feeling was not to change. The sign will change to match the new colour scheme so there is still a contract to be had, but now youve told me its very lucrative Guess so negotiations can start!
Jamie, the old table football is about goosed, a couple of people have looked at it but it only lasts a few days. I have given to a friend whos yound thai son played it all the time.
Hans Martin, we will stock all of the beers we can, unfortunaetly getting something unique to drink is tough, just have to make some concoction up for you! Maybe you can try a black velvet. |
