Anyone know where I can have a coherent conversation with a supplier of IPODS in HH ?
Need one for my hammock days in Khon Kaen starting on Saturday
Save me lugging the laptop up there _________________ Why does my head feel so bad why does my soul feel so bad - Moby (Dick)

Cheers Randy
Looks like you and me are in similar boats
My village is 75 kms north east of Khon Kaen and although they have landlines they only run to telephone boxes. The mobile is encouraged for some reason or other. No need to figure who was behind that!!!
Sure I could drop a few Bhat and it would be resolved, but I don't live there (Yet) so I am quite happy to go offline for a couple of weeks and laze in my hammock.
If I was going to base myself there instead of HH then I'd seriously look at satellite and mobile connections or dropping a few Bhat in the right direction
In the 5 years I've been going up there things have changed immensely so if you are planning to live there long term I'm sure it will all arrive together with MacDonald's and Burger King
ENJOY
I do enjoy on a 'visit basis' To me that is real Thailand but in my tender 3rd childhood I dwell often on the word PROGRESS. Take it as it comes. Go with the flow

Richard,
I don't know if you've had an iPod before but (I think) that the only way you can get the iTunes software you need to get the tunes from your pc onto your iPod is via the internet - could take a while to download if you aren't on a high speed connection.
Maybe things are different in LoS - maybe others can advise on this point? _________________ "The man who never made a mistake never did bugger all" - Old Welsh proverb

The new iphone uses touch screen technology as does the new ipod (the itouch) It looks really cool and has tilt screen ability, ie if you are viewing photos and tilt the screen the photo will readjust..... There is a lot more to it, I could type away for ages. Best type 'itouch' into google and look at the pics. _________________ Why drink and drive when you can smoke and fly!

richard,
If your new purchase will work the same as my son's iPod, then the normal laptop format of MP3 or WMA will not be compatible. You will have to download the Apple software and re-rip all of your music in to their unique format. This will also double the amount of space taken up on your laptop's hard drive. Do you have that much space free and are you willing to duplicate your misic collection?
If you already have your music ripped in MP3 or WMA format, you would probably be better off bying something compatible with what you already have - if nothing else, for the sake of the limited time you have before you set off North. _________________ Green Army position 5=

Big Boy, your boy is doing something wrong!
I guarantee that standard MP3 files (but not wma files) can simply be dragged and dropped into your iTunes folder and then synced to the iPod. That is exactly what I do and I get my MP3's from many different sources. I do not double up on file storage.
To check what file types your iPod is playing, go into My Music (assuming you use Windows), then iTunes and work through the sub folders. They should contain MP3's.
You do, however, need iTunes to transfer the MP3's from your computer to your iPod _________________ "The man who never made a mistake never did bugger all" - Old Welsh proverb

Thanks Jaime, I'll get him to check it out when he comes home from school.
He has one of the new 160Gb iPod Classics that were only release a few weeks ago. He's obviously still learning how to use it properly, but I don't remember seeing anything about it being MP3 compatible.
I'll let you know. _________________ Green Army position 5=

Didn't wait for my son to come home. I checked the specifications myself http://www.apple.com/ipodclassic/specs.html. You are right Jaime - thanks again
richard,
You still need to be sure that your music collection is in MP3 format. I know that my son used to generally use Windows Media Player, which ripped to WMA format. If you have been doing the same, then my advice above still stands. _________________ Green Army position 5=
