Hi All,

Me and the wife(Thai) are possibly relocating from Torquay to HH in the next couple of years and are just weighing up the pros and cons of rental, ownership, leasing...etc.
I currently own two condos in Jomtien and are thinking about getting a mortgage on one or possibly both, in my wifes name.
The thing is, after a massive ruck with the in laws(free at last!) she no longer has access to any important documents such as birth certificate and census data. Is this rectifiable? or are we knackered?
I'd be grateful to hear your thoughts.....

Cheers! Rolling Eyes

My gal lost her birth certificate and the remedy, go back to the town of her birth, visit the local amphur office or whatever they call it. Paid a nominal amount & hey presto... a new document was produced.

Reminds me of a guy I know who is pure Anglo and born in Australia. He is now married to Fijian Indian. She didn’t like Australia and Fiji wasn’t working out, so they decided to move to India. He now has an official document saying that he is of Indian descent, which somehow assists him in his residency.

My wife became a US citizen, and gave up her Thai passport.

She decided that she wanted a Thai ID card, so back to the home town, see the local officals, pay some money (the key ingredient), and presto a Thai ID card to go along wtih her US passport.

She wanted the Thai ID card for travelling around the country, and for business purposes.

No big deal. She did it in a day while I was sitting on the beach in HH.

My wife had a very similar problem, and it was resolved in exactly the same way - a certified true copy of the original.

Reading this, I think gaijin is suggesting some sort of backhander to obtain an illegal document - this is totally unecessary in Thailand.
