The only benefit to satellite is where you cant possibly get a phone line put in (yes, its stand alone), its no quicker and usually more expensive due to the hardware involved in the installation, more info here:

We moved to Hua HIn recently and rented a house that said they had a phone line. I am a Futures trader so it is imperative I have a consistent connection. Turned out that the house did not have a phone line and consequently I heard horror stories about the difficulties of getting one.
However I was nicely surprised by ToT, they put the phone line in in 3 days and I had the internet the following day. I opted for the max and it costs about 2,500 per month (I think). The connection has been great everyday so far, no problems. |

I use TOT ADSL , the 256 package at 500b/month unlimited usage.
Had very few problems with it. On the two or three times when I have had problems , I have called the call centre and they sent a couple of technicians around within an hour who reconfigured the router for me.
I dont do huge downloads or run a business with it , but for surfing and generally doodling around the speeds are fine. Occasionally it slows down a bit , but never for long. _________________ shakin' boxcar joe. |

A lot depends on your location, the further away from town you are the worse your connection usually is, the cranky old phone cables haven't been maintained since 1865.
As said above it also depends what you want to do, if its the odd email to mum and reading HHAD then the cheapo packages will suffice. If you need to depend on the internet then its worth spending a little more on a package. _________________ I've got a bad feeling about this |
