Importing a Car from the UK

Hello all,
I have a kit car in the uk, i would really love to bring it to Hua Hin, i know its difficult but was wondering if anyone has done it successsfully or heard of anyone that has. The car is registered in 1986 and could be shipped in bits. The engine is 3500cc but the factory engne output back then was only about 160bhp. Any ideas anyone?

I knew a guy who tried in Pattaya who had a car shipped. It never got past Bangkok and he ended up sending it back. Sending it bits may make it easier as it will be recorded as spares.

Worth talking to Chai and take a trip to the bike weekend (Nov 4 & 5 at Sea Pine Garden) . These guys are importing stuff all the time.

If it's the Rover V8 engine you can get kits to whack that up to over 280 BHP.

Yeah they would be good guys to speak to, good thinking natman. As for the block, its a Rover V8 documented as 3.5, but bored to 4.0, low lift cam, holley carbs, offty inlet manifold and straight thru pipes, it should shove just over 300bhp now. Wouldnt that be a laugh to take to Ranong! New business EXPRESS VISA RUNS home and back in 6 hours. (insurance not available)

I have few friends who did import his own car to thailand.( for his own)

one guy he works at british Embassy..Then No problem for Him coz Taxes Duty Free and every thing more easier for the Embassy official.( This is special case)



and i have the other friend import just for IMPERMANENT and thailand allow only 6 months( from AUS)

(Do u want to import can in thailand for IMPERMANENT or PERMANENT.)

bring All document that show That u own this car..all kind of Invoice..

about Import document u will have from shipping...Like transport document.or other.

Go to customdepartment ( when your car arrive).with all document if every thing ok..They will lest u sight the paper for Guaruty your own car.( can be cash or bank guaruty)

I think U need to fill the form for reason why u want to bring your car To thailand also...

and after every paper ok..They ll check your car..

and will give u some papaer That U can export backand and show the police when They stop u.

then after if time up u have to brink car back to Uk....or if u want your car stay longer Then U have to go and talk with them....


for PERMANENT case...U need to have work permit and need to stay in thailand about 1 years minimum ..and u have To pay taxes.for the car

.but may be not full amoung ...depent on how old your car..

But more headach about document...

BUT I THINK WILL COST U A LOT COZ THE FREIGHT FROM SHIPPING and LOT OF HEADACH.from paper

HE DID IT BUT COST HIM ALOT...



if u really love to bring your car with u in thailand.

Ask Thai embassy In London. They should be abel help u.

Mr Jw it will cost you more than the vehicle is worth without a doubt

this is somthing i looked into in regards bringing a beloved bean can from the uk
the costs were scary to say the least

if you bring over as a none permenant you will be looking at
shiiping + 5 times its value as a gaurentee (deposit)+ any taxes due on vehicle type and engine size insurance and road tax . the vehicle will have to be taken out of the country within a 12 month period without any gaurentee that any funds you have paid as deposit / gaurantee will be returned
bringing a car in as a permenant import the fun gets even better with paper work and backhanders unless you have any contacts in the right places

even to bring in as parts you will need to be vary carefull
the registration process is slow and very expensive

just to give you a idea on tax a base mini in the uk is around 12 k sterling a base mini in Th 2mill thb more than 30k double the price

Looks like the beloved will be staying in the uk! Will look at those sites Dr D just for amusement i think. Any way my head would get fried drivin around in the car, so maybe better it stays in UK!

unfortunatly yes Ian i looked into bringing a 1958 tv 175 lambretta over 4 years ago
the shipping was the easy part around 170 usd ..
the rest was mine field of paperwork and the heavy fee as security for 1 year peiriod 5 times the insurable value from place of origin im my case the lambretta was valued at £5,500.00 for insurance which worked out around 2 million THB security money to pay at this end plus any other fees the customs could think off to add on
