Tried two different packages, both operational but far from high speed, would only recommend it if you cant get a land line or need to be on the move.

Hutch shop market village. 1000 baht a month, but you also have to buy the gadget for your computer.

I tried many before trying the 'Hutch' package. True its a bit slow but its certainly no slower than the others. It has served my purpose adequatly enough. It can be found as stated upstairs at the new(ish) market village.

What sort of speeds are people getting?
Does it work everywhere, e.g. in Pak Nam Pran?

Would appreciate any feedback.

Would like to know also, is this a roaming package, i.e anywhere in Thailand? Is it also a month ONLY contract and buy again the following month?

..what sort of speed are peole talking about...

Well, being back in HH it is really a joy to take those 8 minutes to log onto the site again...regardless of how you get online..
"Speed" in LOS is not really equivalent to the meaning in the western world

Shocked

Anyone who wants to get Hutch CDMA (i.e. Hutch MBI), I am selling my modem (I needed it for Condo Chain but moved condos).

Used for only one month (April), mint condition, everything original is included in the original box, etc. It's the model that plugs into your USB port (not PCMCIA card), so it can be used in a desktop or notebook. Also the only model that works on Mac OS X. Sorry, I can't recall the model number. I bought it from Hutch and it says Hutch on the modem.

It's at a friend's condo in Condo Chain, just PM me and I'll give you her phone number to go pick it up. Again it's indistinguishable from brand new, I just want to recoup part of what I paid.

Once you have the modem, you just go to a Hutch store and get a contract. If you only have a tourist visa you need to bring a Thai friend to sign for you.

(EDIT: I had made an error in the price I paid. It was 4500 baht new.

New lower price: 3000 baht.)

Hi mate

I tool a look at the Hutch site and it says it gives a download speed around 150kbs.

Im using a DTAC card in a Samsung mobile which gives me 115kbs and unlimited use for 990 bht a month....seems like when you factor in the purchase of the modem it makes Hutch expensive.

The DTAC works all over Thailand (even in backwoods Issan), and I dont have connectivity problems or noticable slowdown....its just slow compared to broadband back in Blighty....but what the hell.

Its good enough for me to do my work and do mails using a remote Outlook link (takes about 5 mins to send a 2 meg attachment).

Anyway, good luck

Just a note that I've dropped the price on my modem to 3000 baht. Like new, all original packaging/stuff, located at Condo Chain.

Can you post a couple of speed tests using this at different times of the day:

http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/

Or here: http://www.speedtest.net/ (but don't use a Thai server).

Also what are the ping results from google.com yahoo.com atimes.com and bbc.com

Maybe interested if it performs well enough.

Hi, sorry for the abysmal response time - I have been away from this forum for weeks and thought I'd get topic response notification e-mails, but didn't.

I'm in Canada, not Hua Hin, for the summer. The modem is in a box at my friend's condo, so I can't do speed tests. As I remember, it downloads from 8-18 KB/s depending on time of day. Not fast, but usable for email and web, and it should work everywhere you happen to be with your laptop, unless you're on a jungle trek.
