From Hua Hin you can go either by train or bus to Surat Thani and then take the ferry to Ko Samui.
Easiest way from Bankok is by plane though. _________________ I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. |

Or two other options that both cut down distance and raod travel.
1. Bus service to Chuphon and boat to Koh Samui via Ko Tao.
2. Train to Chuphon, taxi to peir, boat to Koh Samui.
All the local agents have packages but avoid getting accomodation through them. Just tell them you are staying with friends in Koh Samui. _________________

Boardies, will be staying with the family in HH in June and then want to take them to Samui for a couple of weeks.
What's the most comfortable and quickest way to do this with young children and a wife who packs too much ?
Hire a mini-bus? If so how long would it take to the ferry at Chuphon?
Take the train? What's the scheduling like?
Return to BKK and fly?
Thanks |

Roppongi,
The bus to Chumpon, then boat service to Koh Tao is fine, but when you want to take the boat all the way to Koh Samui from Chumpon it's just too long a trip by boat for me.
For me best way would be private air-con minibus to Surat Thani, then boat accross to Samui. Not the cheapest way but if you're asking for the most comfortable and quickest then I'd go for that.
Haven't gone to Chumpon by train but mates that have said it was bit of a nightmare.
Why not just go to Koh Tao, it's a much shorter trip, a fine Island with plenty of nice beaches, snorkelling, restaurants, bars etc without the seedier/rowdy nightlife that Samui has (bearing in mind you mentioned young kids).

Couple of options:
1) Fly from BKK - by far the quickest and most convenient. Approx Cost 4,500 Baht (each) - not including transport from HH to BKK.
2) Lomprayah bus and ferry - Bus Hua Hin to Chumphon arrives at 13.00, Ferry to Koh Tao (1hr 20Mins), Ferry to Pha-gnan (40 Mins), Ferry to Samui (40 Mins). Approx cost 2,500 Baht (all)
3) Train to Surat - 7 hours, Bus to Don Sak - 1 hour, Ferry to Samui 1 hour. Approx Cost 1,000 Baht (all)
4) Hire a minivan, 6 hour drive plus Ferry, approx cost 5,000 Baht (all)
Don't quote me on those prices though. _________________ Luctor et Emergo |
