|
|
This is from this months Observer:
---
The Observer recently had the chance to interview Khun Jira Pongpaiboon, who is again running for local office in the forthcoming elections. Khun Jira was born in Hua Hin in 1935 into a fishing family and went on to manage his own construction company and computer shop (IT Pawin). He has been Municipality Mayor twice already, and has put himself up for election to this office on 11 May. If elected, his area of responsibility will be the 86.3 square kilometres running from the airport at Bo Fai to Khao Takiab.
He emphasised particular problems needing attention including upgrading the water supply and placing more lights in poorly lit areas of town. He went on to say, that new road development should hopefully ease traffic congestion that builds up at weekends and national holidays. Perhaps the most interesting scheme for tourists and visitors to Hua Hin is a plan to make the whole town a free wireless Internet zone. (Something known as a Wi-Fi ‘Hot Spot’). Visitors can get their laptops online without plugging into telephone jacks in any restaurant or hotel lobby, and then go ahead and surf, send e-mail or work. If achieved, this will be a first for any town or city in Thailand.
Also planned is a new large amusement and water park for family use, a sports stadium and a new airport separate from the current one north of town. Khun Jira hopes to tackle Hua Hin’s flooding problem, increase the amount of tourist attractions and provide more schools with good teachers for local children. He also has a strategy to increase police presence around the town to deter crime, which has been on the increase of late. Other items on Khun Jira’s wishlist are a one-stop service centre for advice on Thai law, a similar centre open 24 hours dealing with emergencies, a solution to the rubbish/garbage situation and fair local tax system to fund the necessary infrastructure improvements and maintenance.
---
I like the idea of the wifi zone but it'll only really benefit the tourists as most of us live too far away. _________________ Named must your fear be before banish it you can. |

We have free wi-fi here in central Luxembourg and it’s great for getting on-line with your wi-fi telephone even if you don’t have your laptop with you. The only thing is it’s run by the local telephone company and they’ve blocked voip servers on it, so you still have to go to MacDonalds or a bar to get a cheap phone call, or if you’re really cheap stand outside one!
All these hotspots really make it worthwhile getting a hand phone that supports wi-fi and voip. |

Thank You 4 DA News Buksida!!!
Hmm.... I wonder how many of his planned Projects he can actually achieve or let's say to get done.
Hmm.... To make the whole Town a free Wireless Intermet Zone (Something known as WiFi Hot Spots). Wouldn't it be better using WiMax Technology. It's allready used in KL and works darn well... As far as I heard.
Yep! very Baaaad News for Imternet Cafe's on feed!!!

Free Wi-Fi for the whole town? Does that mean 'the whole of the centre of town' or actually all of the area he will be responsible for? I'm thinking it means the former.
And I'm super-impressed that they will be having a new water/theme park. I wonder how many extra days per year residents (esp those over the railway line) will have their water cut off to make sure there is plenty of water for that? Yes, I'm aware that he states he wants to upgrade the water supply - he also said he will put more police on the street to 'combat' crime & more & better teachers in local schools. I think the word 'wishlist' is very apt & I'm sure most items on that list will remain in wish form only. _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? the one that interests me is the airport. where exactly would they put one?
I sat up on the viewpoint a few weeks ago and you'd have trouble swinging a cat in HH now never mind building a new airport....... _________________ If I can't smoke and swear I'm f****d!

You speak out of my mind Sandman67! The airport we have now is really a farce. Please build an Airport with long enough Runway that could handle at maximum An Airbus A330-300 and the B787's. Other Airplanes such as A380 nad B747's would be too Big.
About the Location... please don't ask! I'm still having trouble looking for a suitable place on Google Earth!

wasn't the new airport going to be west of black mountain golf course ?
remember something about a fuss regarding foreigners buying big chunks of land around the golf course that was affecting the planned site ?

I thought west of Black Mountain course was....well....mountains?
would make for an interesting take off & landing tho
All they'd need is Phuket Air to run it an we'd all be laughing.....
why the hell do they need a new one when we already have one at the edge of town? Make that one longer or even better dont bother.....imagine the noise....nightmare.

| I would have thought that Hua Hin is too near to BKK to justify building an airport of any size. Airports cost staggering amounts of money and it really wouldn’t be worth it to save a two and a half hour drive. |

Hi there to Y'all!
To answer Dawn's Question I think too that the Free Wireless WFi Internet would be in Downtown Hua Hin. But with WiMax wireless Highspeed Internet would also be available without setting as much WiFi Hotspots all over the place. All we need is one WiMax Antenna situated on the Highest point in the Hua Hin area. It will act as a huge WiFi Hotspot spanning several square Kilometres. This WiMax Texhnology is being tested by True Corp. On Phuket right now.
Actually Hua Hin doesn't need a new Airport all we need is to extend the Runway & Taxiway to the Sea. This will cost another mass amount of Money but It will cost less than building an entire New Airport of Plan.

| I do believe the current airport achieved 'international status' some months after it had closed. 'The horse had already bolted!' |
