I've got some photos of Petchkasem Road, the night market and other areas from 1989 when I first came here on holiday.
I'd need some help with scanning etc.
Admin?

Photo 1 - taken on the beach from the Anantara hotel looking towards Khao Takieb in the distance.
Note, no high rise condos.
Photo 2 - Petchkasem Road taken from the police box outside the day market.
Note, I'm standing in the middle of the road and didn't get knocked down. Very dangerous now.
Photo 3 - taken from the side entrance of the Sofitel on the main road to the beach. The stalls are still there, but there's no City Beach Hotel and the two tranmitter ariels are from the Post Office on the left and the police station on the right.

This was how some of town looked in 1989.
Would reckon that photos from the 70's would have dinasaurs roaming the streets instead of SUV's. Wink

Nice pics. First time I was in HH was in 1971 - didn't notice any dinosaurs, but then I was pretty spaced a lot of the time in those days - I may just have missed them....
Was in HH again (for the first time since) about 4 years ago. My, what a lot of bars now! Had a ball. I will be visiting again next Jan/Feb. Great little town! Shocked

Hello Nisakiman.
Did you take any pictures of HH when you're here in '71?

Hi Norseman
Sorry, no pics....
By the time I hit Thailand I'd been travelling more than 6 months in the middle east and south asia, and what hadn't been stolen, I had sold! I was travelling light - a toothbrush and a change of underpants! Oh, and of course, the all important towel!
HH was a very quiet place in those days, but very friendly. I stayed a week or so, maybe 10 days. I think I only saw 2 other farang when I was there then. It's a tad different now!
When I left HH, I went down to Phuket. Patong virtually didn't exist! No hotels, no bars - just a few fishing boats pulled up on the beach. Idyllic!
