how to get a thai driving licens

If I stay for a year or more in HH is it good enough wilth an international driving licens ? I would like to have a Thai one to. What papers do I need to get one and wher do I get it.
Anyone that knows ?

Get a non-immigrant visa and go with your international driving-liscence to the registration office in Pranburi.
They'll issue a 1-year-liscence without any problems.

Don't forget a small-sized photo!

If I remember correctly, you must apply 2times for a liscence which is just valid for 1 year, and may apply for further 5 years afterwards.

You need a Type O visa
Photograph
Your original driving licence or International one
Medical Certificate - there's a very obliging medical centre at the Pranburi cross roads - easy to get.

The info above is largely correct, but I would politely suggest that you use the search facility on this site before posting your questions, as it has been covered before here and other useful information here. Things do change however so if you find that anything is different to this info, maybe you could add your experience to the relevant thread? New threads on previously covered subjects not only irritate the hell out of the mods but also make the board harder to navigate and off putting for newcomers, so please everyone do a little work by yourselves before posting. I have a Thai driving licence valid for 5 years. I had to sit a paper test to make sure I knew the Thai road signs. The test was taken at Pranburi. A non immigration B visa or a retirement visa is required along with two passport size photographs. The licence is a handy thing to have as it seems to gain more respect from police at random-stop-and check points.

If you already have a driving license from your own country you don't have to do the written test (its in Thai), only a colour blindness one. They even help you with that if you get it wrong ... later on the road: "sorry officer I thought that light was blue".

You must have been on a lucky day, it was all in Thai only when I went (this was a few years ago though).

Again, unless this has changed, you will get a 1 year license first which is changed to a 5 year one after the first year.

What's the story on the colour blind side of things. 1 in 20 white males have an issue when doing the dots test and fail on Red/Green making them red green colour blind. I happen to be amonst them. Been driving in the UK over 30 years. Will this be a problem for me here if I decide to stay fulltime?
