why does everyone bag the hilton? i stayed there last year for 2 weeks, great views, good service, great location & the cost was reasonable for a hotel of that standard.

I stayed there for 2 weeks this January. Very pleasant stay - only one problem - on a couple of days they ran out of sunbeds. Would recommend it to anyone.

Budley, must have had an influx of Germans if there were no sunbeds left.
Keep an eye out about 2.00am in the morning when they sneak out with their torches to reserve the best ones for the next morning
Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers Cheers

I don't think many of the posts on here are ever having a go at the hotel and it's accommodation, not that i have seen anyway, but they are regularly criticised for two things; firstly, their 'nightclub' the Hua Hin Brewing Company for a number of things but notably their comparative prices and awful music, and secondly, for the way the Hilton apparently bullies the town's officials over any potential competition to said nightclub - it has been said to me on many occasions that several operations were either planned or actually started, only to be closed down or prevented from opening for some spurious reason or other.

The Hilton are simply discriminary and expensive.
How many times do I or other people on this board give them a hard time?
So for the record, I'm sure that the hotel is great. But just bear in mind their heavy handed hand when dealing with smaller businesses in their vicinity.
The Thai people they put out of work will never forget.
Enough.

Well said Lomu. I do think that relative newcomers (or should that be 'newgoers'?) to HuaHin can't be expected to understand the politics involved, and from what little I've seen of the accomodation it can't be faulted. In fact pretty impressive compared to my usual haunt in Bangkok!
People who are splashing out on a special holiday want VFM and comfort.
However, I do remember the hassle experienced some 6/7 years ago by Anne and Gertein, who had the Pattana Guest House. They also had an apartment at the top of a 3 or 4 story building near the fishing pier. With the apartment came a huge terraced area complete with a kind of 'lighthouse' structure. They submitted plans to the Tessaban to renovate the tower and create a restaurant on the terrace, complete with low key live music.
Their application was refused on more than one occassion. Reason being that their customers would 'overlook' the top floors of the Hilton, and would therefore be a risk to Royal security. TIT.

ibow to the locals and there knowledge of the local situation as i certainly have no idea on that front but again i would say we were very happy with all aspects of the hotel, mind you we always go in the low season so rates are better and ive never had a problem with getting sunbeds. with regard to the nightclub it was fine for me and the drinks were no more than i would expect to pay in a 5star place. the price of this place compared to the sofitel or marriot is roughly the same with i think you would agree a far better location

Thats why I asked, I was just suggesting that the location of the Hilton is no better than the location of the Sofitel.
