|
|
This board is specifically for women to address issues pertinent to themselves, talk about their experiences in Thailand, address questions that would be more of interest to women than to the general forum and to get in touch with other women in the Hua Hin area.
While men are very welcome to express their views on here, we would ask them to please moderate their language and not make derogatory or offensive remarks about women of any nationality. Such remarks, if made, will be edited. Similarly, any derogatory remarks made about men will be subject to editing. Please express your views freely, but in an intelligent manner.
All HHAD terms and conditions, obviously, still apply.
I'd like to make Women's Issues as successful as other parts of the forum, so , ladies (& gents), please get posting with any matters of interest that fit into the WI criteria.

White skin vs dark skin!
Why is it that most European & American women spend a fortune on getting tanned, and most Asian women spend equal amounts on getting white?
Baffles me - why can't women be happy the way they are?
I know that there is a lot of commercialism in the beauty market and culturally it seems the done thing - but where is the common sense? _________________ Terry Theobald

I actually know the answer to this one - money! In the 20's Coco Chanel & others of the elite class in Europe started sunbathing. Having holidays in warm climes & gaining a tan became a sign of the monied classes, & hence fashionable.
Before that, the west had the same views as Asia, being white meant you didn't have to work in the sun, you weren't a peasant, so, you had money.
It was all a way to show how rich you were, then it just became accepted fashion. _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, philosopher, 1748-1832
