John, may pay to go into Bernies bar when you get to HH, they have a golf society run from there and would be able to answer questions re local green fees etc.

The area is called Hua Hin Bazaar. Bernie´s is next to Cat and Jaew karaoke´s on the same strip with Billy´s Bar. You can also go in there from the road leading to the public beach between Sofitel and Central Village. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

You can play at the Tanarat military camp in Pran Buri - full 18-hole course with lots of water hazards - open to the public - THB 600 Monday - Friday including caddy fee. _________________ Barry Stone

The course on the military base at Pranburi is about 25km south of HH, off the main Petchkasem highway. It's been a few years since I've played it, but it's never in the best of condition. However, it is testing. If you're a serious golfer, the course might not be to your liking, but for 600 Baht what can you expect? Just play winter rules within a few meters on the fairways.
The golf society at Bernie's play every Tuesday and Friday on a number of different courses. They manage to negotiate advantageous green fee rates, but I don't think you'll be able to benefit from those as you have to demonstrate that you live here in HH for a certain period of time each year to become a member. That's not really surprising if you look at things from the golf courses' point of view. Nevertheless, the society does welcome guests, so you'll have the opportunity to take part in the competitions. Pop into Bernies and take a look at the fixtures. I'd definitely recommend the "away days" when a bus is chartered and they visit Kaeng Krachan, Royal Ratchaburi and maybe others.
Days at the local courses are fun as well. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

There´s another golf society at Butterfly Rock. You can find the place on Soi Sarawat, a little bit south from the intersection that leads to the public beach and Sofitel. I don´t know about their policy for visitors but it´s worth checking out anyway. For both societys, I think, you can find contact numbers in Observer magazine. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全

The month of August is the hua hin golf festival, you can play all the 'major' golf course for a green fee of 800 baht, the only exception is Black Mountain which is 1000 baht. In the month of September, Springfield have a green fee of 999 baht.
Look at www.huahingolfsociety.com for their fixtures etc. |

| They will not negotiate for sure - like it or lump it is exactly right! You will enjoy your golf anyway, its still good value compared to Spain etc, although the gap is getting closer. |
