Ok, while its established that you need to bring 800,000 TBH, and/or 65,000 per month INTO Thailand for the duration of your "stay" what would happen when you wanted to take any surplus OUT of the Kingdom? (talking Retirement Visa, here)
Im thinking that 65,000 a month is an awful lot to spend month in, month out, so there would be a heathy "float" at the end of each year of (say) 200,000 TBH
Now........say i decided to visit (say) Australia, Canada, USA ..........wherever, wishing to use most, if not all of above float.
How easy is it to get foreign currency in that ammout in one go, so as to facilitate the trip/visit?

You can take it back to Falangland f.ex. with the Thai bank ATM card.

You need a steady income of 65K baht per month to your Thai bank a/c, but can use your money wherever you are.

f.ex. erm ........waazat?
If you mean "just get an ATM card from a Thai bank" then thats not really what i need to know. The thought of going possibly thousands of miles to be greeted by a "you must be joking, you cant use THAT here!!!" message flashed up on an ATM screen doesn't fill me with confidence, to be honest Wink
I would walk into the Thai bank and say "gimme (say) 150,000 TBH worth of (say) Australian dollars please. Here is my account number, you can take it from there, plus any exchange fees, My good fellow/lady"
What would be the probable reaction to my request?

As I did need to know it, I've been using Thai ATM card all over the world for six years now.

Never a problem anywhere. Not once.

I also have sent money directly from my bank a/c in Thai bank to my a/c in Falangland. Lots'a papers, not a problem.
However, I do not know about taking it out in cash form in T-land. Cannot help you there, sorry.

I will second that.

All the Thais banks are WBO reckognised and so long as you have the correct ATM card with your account (e.g. Visa/Electron) it will work anywhere in the West.

Although I’ve no experience of doing this, I believe that you can take out of Thailand any amount that you have bought in, so you should be able to transfer to a UK account.

Someone posted a question about paper trails the other day and I do think that all the necessary paperwork has to be done in Thailand as quickly as possible after funds arrive here, otherwise you'll have difficulty getting anything back out, by bank transfer.
If done, I agree, SteveG.

A prime reason to declare any large amounts brought into the country is to be able to prove, to the authorities if ever asked, that the funds did not come from any illicit activity such as drug dealing, within Thailand.

I have no problem del=claring the money.......to whatever is needed to qualify. I just dont like the idea of it being thought of as "their" money......IE to be spent only in Thailand.
Its MY money and i dont want to be asking anyones permission as to where i spend it
