lets hope the appearence of the above as sponsors makes it exist in reality rather than somebodies head. After trekking all the way out to find it..................and its a lousy road there was nothing there but a building site and some very small ponds

Roberto

Thanks for the vote of confidence.

Having put a lot of energey and resorces to get to where we are so far, to see a posting like yours is really a breath of fresh air.

I have openly stated that we are ready for day fishing and that other facilities are still under construction.

Sorry you didn't find it to your liking and one cannot please everybody all of the time.

As for the road - I'm still trying to get the Amphur's arse shifted - if you have any better influence please let me know.

So - I was obviously not there when you visited - nevertheless you are invited out there as my guest to discuss your grievances over a beer or two if you wish. Just call me on the number below.

If we fail to strike an accord then no problem I can introduce you to a few friends of mine called Pacu - they are related to Pirhana and chew brazil nuts as a hobby.

Cheers

Nice to have roberto's chirpy, optimistic prose back on the forums.

Hi Terry,I for one will spend some time at your fishery.I am moving over there in October but will sure miss my fishing in the UK (about the only thing I will miss)
I will have to sell about 4 grands worth of kit before I come as 16 meters of carbon pole will end up shattered with the size of cats and carp there are over there.
PS Have you met John Wilsons brother Dave yet?

Thanks for the support.

Higgy

You will find that fishing tackle is relatively less expensive here than in old blighty.

This is of course an advantage when your rod and reel gets wrecked by a Giant Mekong Catfish as happened to me at my place last Friday night.

We have several specimens which when put unto the ponds two years ago weighed between 42 and 49kg EACH.

They have never been caught before but I managed to hook one on Friday and there followed a 3 hour knackering experience. I managed to get it to the net but a couple of the local lads who 'helped' me, panicked and the blighter got off.

Anyway - no sign of him since - so he will live to fight another day.

Meanwhile I'm making a stretcher in the event that this happens again and I will be offering THB1,000 to anyone who lands one of them.

Needless to say that the rest of the fish in the ponds vary between 4 - 10kg at present and still give a lot of good sport with a great deal of variety.

Hope to see you when you get here.

Pleased to report that the Amphur have seen fit to regrade the road to my place - so now you don't need a monster 4WD to get there. The last 900mm is still not blacktopped - and we are told that this will happen this year.

It's a bit like fishing - if you wait long enough you usually get what you want Mr. Green

The more I read about the "Fishing Lodge", the more it interests me.
Honestly I must confess, that I know about fishing as much as a virgin knows about getting babies.
But maybe it could become a new (and delicious) hobby...who knows?

Terry - can you give us more info:
Do you hire out fishing equipment?
What is the best bait? - Where does one get it?
Is there a shaded area next to the pond / lake?
Do you recommend over night stay?
Is there a barbeque area to cook the fish?
Can I bring sausages in case no fish are caught?
Any other info?

Roberto - I think these guys are too hard on you! Keep posting mate! If I went fishing to a deserted pond I would not be amused either (unless you were told what to expect)?

Hi Hogus

You do not have to know anything about fishing to come and enjoy. We can and will teach you if you wish.

Regarding delicious fish - most people will tell you that freshwater fish do not taste as well as the sea varieties. To a point this is true.
However - we have plenty of Pla Nin (Nile Tilapia) which can be seen in markets everywhere and is very popular with the locals and are generally 'farmed'. Ours are not farmed and NOT fed pellets etc. - so they taste better and with a bit of sauce, go down very well. These fish also provide good fun for the kids to catch and are of course cannon fodder for he bigger fish that we have.
We also have Pacu on the same basis and these are quite delicious bbq'd.
Both of these fish are allowed to be taken at market price +THB5 / kg.

Hi Jockey

Yes we hire out fishing tackle - complete fitted rods are THB 150 / session and we charge at cost price for replacement hooks and end tackle if excessively lost.
Best bait - bread derivitives. These can be bought in any fishing tackle shop and we sell it anyway. As a policy we do not allow live bait (worms etc) purely to protect against transmission of disease to the fish.
Yes we have a large Sala for shade and our shop / restaurant is nearing completion. We also have several other small salas under construction around the ponds
Guest bungalows are part of the future but we do have two airconned units almost complete - I will not be advertising the accommodation as such, just yet as there is still construction activity.
Our current sala 32sqm floor area will become the bbq area as soon as the restaurant is open - we can and do bbq here already.
I'm partial to a few sausages myself so bring some along and we can bbq them to accompany a beer or two.
Cheers

As I have repeatedly stated on this forum - we are open for Day Fishing and I can assure you that I have had some very satisfied customers already - albeit an embryonic facility.
thumbs up

Coming very soon -
The new shop / restaurant will be offering Thai / Western dishes, with a shop stocked with fishing necessities, drinks. snacks, bbq sundries etc.
A big screen TV will be able to show the footy, golf, F1 etc

Finally I would add that Mr. Roberto is welcome to come as my guest - I've offered this before but as yet have not heard from him.

More details on

http://www.huahinafterdark.com/hua-hin-fishing.htm

Hope this helps
Regards
T

Pleased to report that one of our specimen Giant Mekong Catfish was caught and landed successfully yesterday evening.

A beauty at 57 kg

If anyone is interested PM me and I'll send a photo. (Thanks to Steve) thumbs up

Restaurant area is finished - awaiting final touches to kitchen but we can still rustle up food.

UBC on the big screen or bring your own VHS / DVD material

Plus of course a fridge full of cold beer and wine Cheers

Terry, did they throw it back or into the pot? Honestly, I hope the former. Let them breed and reproduce. However, you mentioning the restaurant right "after the fact" is a bad omen...LOL. Shocked The meat on something that big must be somewhat tough, no matter how you cook it. Pete Cheers

Waay-heeyy! Excellent! But I echo Pete, you did put him back didn't you?

And does littl'un still hold the record for most fish caught on one line at one time?? Wink

Cheers

Of course it went back!

There's no way I would carve one of them up.

At that size they could be 20 or so years old - and besides they cost a lot of money to put in there anyway.

Sadly it is my understanding that the Giant Mekong Catfish does not breed too well when left to their own devices these days. They are also extremely rare in the wild having been fished out for the table Sad

I have some 250 of them (unfortunately not all that size), but they are growing nicely and whilst many of the other varieties of fish that I do have, show signs of breeding unfortunately these don't.

And YES Dawn, littl'un still holds THAT record
