I just received an email saying there had been a fatal shooting of an expatriate in HH (name of alleged victim withheld in case it is a spurious mail).
Anyone clarify? |

| I've also heard about this. Happened a couple of days ago. From what I understand, British guy was upset with American guy. British guy goes to Americans' house, storms in, threatens occupants, grabs Americans Thai wife and enters the bedroom the American had retreated to. American was armed with the Thai wifes' .22 rifle and used it. Sad outcome, but, as much as I favour gun control, it did end the threat. Not sure what the outcome for the American will be at this stage. Justifiable use of force ? |

| I had a Thai man come into my house with the intention of harming me 2yrs ago . The fight that took place resulting with him needing Hospital treatment . Police came took him away and i had to go to the police station ,told them what happened they were OK with me but wanted to send him to prison turns out he is an ex Pattaya policeman , anyway i said as long as he paid for damage i would like him let go and they did after 2days. I was lucky to only have a swollen hand and some cuts. I hope the American is OK and has no trouble ,i think here if your on your own property then its OK to defend your self ,unlike the UK. |

| I only heard of this last night. Was told that it developed from a drunken argument resulting in the American producing a gun and shooting the Brit. I understand the American is now in custody. This is, of course, only hearsay. Makes me more adamant about NOT having a gun in the house. |

| I live in the sticks and most Thai house holders have a gun around me, and the obligatory 3 big dogs . |

The Shields Gazette.
A FATHER-of-two from South Tyneside has been shot dead in Thailand.
Martin Connolly, a 52-year-old engineer from South Shields, is believed to have been killed in the coastal resort of Hua Hin while in the country on business.
An American man has been arrested in connection with the incident, which happened on Monday.
Mr Connolly's family are said to be too upset to comment at this time.
A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We can confirm a British National was killed on May 15 in Thailand.
"Police are investigating his death and his next of kin have been informed."
A spokesman for the US Department of State said today: "A consulate officer from the embassy in Bangkok has spoken with the American and offered appropriate consular assistance.
"The privacy
act precludes us from providing further information."
Hua Hin, which is about a three-hour bus ride south of Bangkok, has been one of Thailand's most popular resort for more than 70 years.
It was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII as an ideal getaway from the bustle of Bangkok.
A tourist website describes it as a former "tranquil fishing village" popular with the Thai Royal family.
In 1928, King Rama VII built his Klai Kangwon (Far From Worries) Palace which remains an official royal residence.
It is still frequently used by members of the royal family and is open to the public for visits.
On Christmas Eve 2005 Sunderland man James Hall was killed during an attempted robbery in Thailand.
The 57-year-old's body was found near a bungalow on Chang Island's Sai Khao beach resort.
Nine British nationals have been murdered in Thailand since January 2005. |

Bangkok Post.
Police are preparing to designate Hua Hin and adjacent districts a weapons-free zone in a move to curb rising crime in the popular resort areas. Police Region 7 commander Pol Lt-Gen Worapong Chiwapricha said he wanted to put the resort district, which also houses the Klaikangwon Palace, and adjacent districts of Pran Buri and Cha-am under special care, adding police plan to bring walking streets, markets, and all tourist spots under the designated gun-free zone.
The idea was floated yesterday during a meeting between police and provincial officials and representatives from the tourism sector.
There would be further discussions on the plan, he said, as residents and businessmen in the three districts may still want to ask for permission to have guns in their possession to protect themselves and their assets against criminals, Pol Lt-Gen Worapong said.
Non-resident visitors who have weapons with them would be required to leave their weapons at checkpoints before entering the zone, police said. |

i know the guy who shot the unfortunate english guy.
from what i have heard, there was alcohol involved and an arguement ensued over the apparent touching up(assult) of the american guys wife.which consequently led to the shooting.the american guy is now out on bail (500,000 baht) and he apparently has his passport. (know what i would be doing if it was me).
the american guy is a long term resident of hua hin, kept himslf to himself, didnt visit the traps in town at all.
he was however renown for his temper and arguementative ways, although that said, he was a nice guy.
such a shame, and stupid loss of life.
the english guy was working in the middle east apparently for foster wheeler.and had recently purchased a condo in hua hin.i beleive that they was at the american guys home discussing land.
disclaimer:all the above is just what i have heard so take it with a pinch of salt. _________________ JOHN JOHN LOVES IT |

hard to comment on a situation like this without knowing all the facts.
just find it extreme & disturbing when somebody loses their life in such circumstances. |

| I know the American involved. Met him a few times. As details are at best "hear say". I would suggest that the mods close this thread to avoid anyone making up conjecture that could be false and harmful to both parties. |
