|
|
We have received sketchy reports of a shooting involving a Hua Hin expat. According to reports a Mr Donald Whiting, who earlier this year was victim to a car bomb attack, is currently in hospital following what seems to be an attempt on his life. His condition has been described as critical from two gun shot wounds.
If anybody has any further information on this tragic incident please contact Hua Hin Police Department immediately.
Many are aware of the background involved so HHAD would appreciate it if all unsubstantiated rumours were kept off the public board. _________________ Illegitimi non carborundum |

| The only thing extra I have heard is that it happened on Friday and that both his wife and a number of Thais witnessed it. Both of them posted on this forum and I think we should all hope that he can recover and that whatever happens they have the support they need at this time. Let us also hope the police can swiftly solve this and the perpetrators are caught and punished appropriately. |

Lets hope this man is now comfortable and recovers quickly.
No matter what, actions like this are not justifiable, let’s just hope that this extremely rare occasion is not repeated and that Hua Hin continues, as it always has been, to be a safe and happy place for foreigners to visit or reside in.
In my four years plus living here, this is only the second serious problem involving a foreigner that I have heard about, a much better record than Birmingham or London, Manchester or Glasgow. |

We're trying to stick to the facts and not the conjecture that is posted on 'other forums'.
Here is an article from the Thai Rath on it:
http://www.thairath.co.th/online.php?section=newsthairathonline&content=108910
This is a shocking incident that will make the international media and bring the reputation of the town down, Hua Hin will soon catch up with its counterpart across the Gulf.
Wishing Don a speedy recovery. _________________ Illegitimi non carborundum |

Hello all and thanks for all your kind words toward Donald and Dolly. Being a friend of theirs I spent much time with Dolly over the weekend and she stayed at our house after the incident as she was afraid to return to hers.
Donald has been moved to a hospital away from Hua Hin now in the hope of a better prognosis as well as for his own safety.
He was shot twice through the chest while standing in his front yard on Friday evening. One bullet pierced both lungs and the other went through his stomach and damaged his spine.
It took some surgeries to get him through the night on Friday and by Saturday evening his vitals had been stabilized and he was able to breath without the respirator.
Sunday morning he was moved by ambulance to a hospital away from Hua Hin, but he remains in critical condition and is now back on a respirator.
The Doctor has said that if he lives, he will be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life as the spinal cord injury has left him paralyzed from the waist down.
Thanks again for all the kind words on this thread. I will make sure Dolly sees them. |

If you see Dolly or Donald please wish them both the best from me. Donald will be in my prayers for a speedy recovery.
This is a terrible incident, one I believe the residents of Hua Hin should be making a noise about with the authorities in Hua Hin.
I hope whoever did this or was behind it is found out and dealt with swiftly by the authorities. _________________ Per Angusta In Augusta.

Thank you all for your kind words and support. The outpouring from the Hua Hin community is so very appreciated, and I will convey your messages to Donald.
I can't say any more due to the ongoing investigation. Just know that your support helps Donald and me get through this terrible, terrible time.

My wife saw the thaitath report on Saturday (here in the UK, via the net), but she say's the above is only a shortened version of what was originally posted.
Basically, the Police reported that 2 people used a gun, make not known, to shoot DW, American Citizen, in the chest twice. Was taken to HH San Paulo where a Doctor stated his prognosis was not known (prognosis my word, my wife couldn't translate exactly, but explained the meaning).
Police asked his wife, Dolly, what happened and she said 2 men, driving a bronze Toyota Vigo pick-up, stopped at the house, DW went out to look at them and they just shot him twice then drove off.
Mention is made of the property dispute and his car being burnt out.
Dolly's connection to a local university (VP?) is also mentioned.
From the original report that was there the other day, my wife said there was mention of a court case coming up, but thats been omitted in the shorter version that remains. _________________ bibamus, moriendum est

Sickening news. Our thoughts are with Dolly and Donald, hoping he'll make a recovery and see those responsible brought to justice.
