I had a search of the forums and couldn't find anything about this, so here goes. I woke up today (late) to find that my electricity was off. Not too much of a surprise as it is a fairly regular occurrence here. However I could hear a television on in my neighbours house so I asked him if they had had a power cut, to which he replied that they had, but the power had come back on after about an hour, several hours previously. I checked my fuse box but nothing wrong there, so then I went outside to look at my meter. On the way I checked my mailbox, as I do most days, and lo and behold there was an electric bill (I had been expecting one for some time) with the date that the meter was checked as 20th December, and a due date of 5th January! This bill (of 300 baht!) had not been there the previous day. I have a look at the meter and the wires have been pulled out! Even worse, they were bare and live!! Shocked

I called the electric co who checked and told me I had an outstanding bill that was overdue, so my electric had been cut off! I was, I think quite understandably, pretty annoyed about this, especially as the man I was speaking to kept insisting that I come down to the office and pay the bill. I politely ranted Cussing

and got him to agree that the best solution was to send someone to reconnect me and I pay him. I didn't have complete confidence that this was going to happen any time soon, but to give credit where it is due, within 20 minutes a guy turns up and does the necessary - although I had to pay an extra 60 baht on top of the bill! So it appears that the earlier power cut had been so they could disconnect me, while putting the overdue bill in my mailbox because someone somewhere had cocked up and not given it to me before! It was exactly 28 days from when the meter had been read and 11 days overdue so I have to assume that is how long you have before the same happens to anyone else. I guess this is a word of warning to everyone more than anything else - note the date when you normally have to pay your bill and if you don't receive it go to the office and enquire. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had a similar experience. Shoot em up

Yes Wanderlust.
A Swedish friend had to go back home for 6 weeks.
Upon arrival in HH he tried to switch on the ligths in the bathroom.
No light.
The electricity workers had simply removed his meter.
He had to go to their office next morning, pay the bill and fine, and later same day they installed his meter again.

Being a newbee and moving out to Hua Hin this year, I would be very interested to hear the out come of this post.

Dont shout at me because as yet I have to come across problems like this, but is it not possible to pay bills like this by direct debit.

Yes it is Limey and don't worry about it.
You can take of all your bills the same way you do in Europe or the States.
Just give your bank the details and they fix the payments.
Some guys even handle these things from UK or whereever they live.
You can find more about this on this board if you do a little search.
4-5 months ago we mentioned this somewhere. Can't remember where, but suggest you try "ask the expats" thread.

connect the wires back up on the other side of the meter ( house side) and see if they figure it out
