Crime increase in projects

I'm living in Natural Hill, soi Mooban Bofai, next to soi 6.

I am scared to see how crime is increasing. There is no week without a burglary report in this project. As break-in only happen in unoccupied houses, I wonder if there is no complicity from inside the project itself...

Have you the same situation where you're living ?

Or it is more specific to Natural Hill ?

If someone set up a propper security company with proper trained guards and regular patrols. As apposed to one untrained guard sleeping by the entrance! They would earn an absolute fortune.

With crime on the increase this is a golden oppurtunity for some bright spark to make good.

Its not rocket science. You have 2 day guards on 12 hour shifts followed by the night ones. They have to enter their own pin code to a central control unit every hour and failure to do so results in loss of pay.

Security is the one industry in London that is going strong despite the recession.

Will we see it in Hua Hin? will we hell as like... Confused

I don't think it's only Natural Hill but happening in many other projects too. I don't live in a project, but as I reported on another thread, a project near me where I know lots of people had a rash of burglaries a while back, and it turned out to be one of the project's own workers when he was finally caught.

I think this is a common scenario as they know which homes are unoccupied at any given time.

If I was a criminal I would think it is easy prey to determine which house has nice furniture to steal and also is not occuoied.

Things a burgler might think about if wanting to burgle a house:

1. Is house occupied? Answer = only 30% of houses bought by Farangs are actually occupied 100% of the time... easy pickings!

2. Anything worth stealing? Answer = Any poor person will consider ANYTHING is worth stealing if it brings in food for their family!

3. What is the risk? Answer = None if the friend of the burgler is the security guard for the project!

Moral of the story? Do not invest in a house unless you intend it is occupied nearly all of the time. I am amazed why people think unoccupied houses will not be burgled.

Most houses which are occupied and burgled are used by single female occupants. That means houses are stalked.

Moutain Village is the same with numerous burglaries.

Occuppied and Unoccuppied houses.

We have tried to set up a secutiry Co to no avail.

Alarm, Two Big Loud Dogs, security grills and lights and people at the house seems to be working but nothing guaranteed!

Not the ideal way to be living in LOS.

Life over there has certianly changed over the past two years!

I believe that security companies / Property care could be a good market

IF people are willing to pay for it. Its a big IF......

But for the average Farang Living over there I dont think that there interested. There on fixed monthly budget and will make there own security arrangements. Second Home owners will just lock up and leave there place empty hoping for the best!!

Everyone will have a different view on the best way forward.

I stay at Grandhills development and have had 2 break-ins so far - the first time they tried to get into the locked bedroom where my wife was sleeping and took nothing - strangely they entered through the only window that did not have top lock (there are about 20 windows downstairs).
And the second time they jemmied the back door, and stole all the small items in the house while my wife was away for 5days.
I have recently upgraded my security system (all doors and windows, down and upstairs are alarmed), redone the door locks and hinges to the Hafele security type, and added an electric fence around the property supplied by a Company in Bangkok.
My development does not have any security, as they have fallen short on many promises when i originally signed my contract (the transfer to a new owner who does not accept liabilities since taking over in 2007) and it appears things are going slow as they still have several open plots on the development which have still to be sold.

I also live in Bo Fai and have become very concerned about security. There have been a lot of burglaries in this area.

It seems to be exclusively foreigners' houses which are being targeted. I spoke to some locals recently and they said they didn't bother even locking their houses - 'there's nothing worth stealing'....

From many of the stories I've heard about crime on property developments, I'm starting to harbour a suspicion that basically a form of protection racket is going on.
You often seem to get a spate of robberies on a development that go on until a security company is employed and then the problems go away.
Of course this could logically be put down to the enthusiastic actions of the security guards, but seeing as many of them are asleep/drunk for much of the time, I'm left wondering if there are other reasons.

That wouldn't surprise me at all STEVE G, well within the realms of possibility. Also, if you have property estates close to your house that are not finished and the only people around are the builders (Cambodians/Burmese etc) then you never know what type of salty looking dudes are hanging around.

Spate of burglaries some months back. None now. Usually target farang residents and NOT expat holiday house owners not resident. Strange that!!!!
Presence of security day/night has been a positive along with grills etc!

It seems the management have at last now responded with regard to security at Natural Hill. They have a new security firm from Bangkok and after the break-ins last week have increased the guards day and night. Also the perimiter wall will have barbwire. Strict outsider checking, ID. card exchange. Extra lighting.Finger printing of staff. Lets see what happens. 70% of the houses that have been entered at night the owners or cleaners have left a window open. The bathroom being the main one. By the way the last security firm was sacked after they were caught by residents playing pool at night at one of the empty houses.

Hi everyone. it seems security is on everyones lips at the moment.
On our development which is only small there have been 3 properties broken into in recent weeks, on of which is like a fortress. Extra locks, grills, barbed wire fence surrounding etc.
All during daylight hours. So there is no limit to the audacity of these robbers, or the desperation.
I am however convinced that it is linked to someone who either works/or has carried out work on the development. In other words some sort of insider knowledge.

By the way does anyone happen to know if they sell that burglar paint here like they do in european countries?.....If they do I would use that on my place here.
