I found it to be absolutely atrocious. Expensive for what it is, dire food and pretty poor service. The only plus side was the location. I went once and didn't return after grey tomato soup that tasted more of chicken than tomato, and being given everything else wrong. Not a pleasant experience.

Are you sure it was Cocos?
i've been many times as have several of my friends and never had a bad meal
Maybe you picked the wrong night and the chef was visiting the family in Isaan
Give it another try and let me know your thoughts _________________ Syd--------Shine on you crazy diamond

Yep, definitely cocos, near dukes. I got the impression they were having some staffing issues so that might have been a factor. Seriously though, the food wasn't a patch on pasta factory (or the rather lovely penang curries in Crawfords that I got hooked on).

For those interested, Coco's now serves brunch between 11 and 3. Good breakfast menu and superb setting. _________________ 21 years in Hua Hin and still learning!

The principle chef has left my once favoured eating place and has now moved to a location closer to town. My allegience has now switched to Crawfords for obvious reasons!!! _________________ Syd--------Shine on you crazy diamond

Depended on what you ordered
I understand the menu has been changed and therefore cannot comment anymore
I suspect a lot of the special dishes have gone along with the chef _________________ Syd--------Shine on you crazy diamond

I don't know what the complainers were eating, but I've been to Coco 51 twice now (last week and about 2 months ago) and had good meals both Thai and western at reasonable prices. Normally, a street stall or inexpensive Thai restaurant is good enough for me , but sometimes guests may enjoy a little bit higher standard of dining experience. I would rate the atmoshere as excellent, the food as good, and the service and prices as fair.

Just had to let you all know about our first visit to Coco 51 last Saturday night.
We arrived without booking and ll was fine. We were given an acceptable table outside. No problems
Ordering, that's were the problems started, and continued, and continued......
Drinks. I ordered (form the Cool Beverages Section of the English Language Menu) and Iced Cafe Mocha.
A Cup of Hot Coffe was delivered.... which was returned
...then, after some VERY long wait, an Ice Coffee arrived..... this I could not obther to return, so accepted.
Food
We ordered a Penne with Bolognaise Sauce for our young girls to share. My wife ordered a 'Marriage of Seafood' and I ordered Salmon.
Penne Arriabata arrived.... we returned it....
My wife's food arrived, and it looked, smelled and tasted wonderful
The Penne with Bolognaise arrived also before my wife finished her meal.
The Salmon didn't arrive.
My wife finished, my very slow eating children finally finished
I questioned, where my Salmon was, was told 2 mins
20 mins passed.... I questioned again,... its coming.
After about 15 mins I asked for the bill.
I had to chase the bill 3 times, and just befor ethe bill arrived, so did my Salmon - it was exactly 1 1/2 hours from ordering. I sent it back as my children had reached the stage where remaining stationary in a restaurant was no longer possible!
They did remove the charge from the bill, of course. But no other ocnisderation was made, no appology, even though th eManageress-type lady was watching what ad happened.
Its seems thathe fod is very good, and hte price is not unrealist, assuming that food actually arrives. I happily drank (with my wife) 2 Carafes of ht eHouse White, which was very drinkable.
So, all in all, not a very good experience, but seems they have (or hadon that night) a very big problem with waiters.
That night there were many, and we were served, at some stage, by most of them. They were all next to useless.
Based on the taste of my wife's food, I may just try them one more time to see if I was just very very unlucky that night.
However, I'll laso make sure that I'm not very hungry when I go!
Good luck to others, like I said, based on the food quality (but not timeliness), it could be worht a try - up to you.

They do sometimes struggle when they are full
Especially at weekends
Try a brunch there early afternoon
I use the place many times and always get good service _________________ Syd--------Shine on you crazy diamond
