Citizen Dog (Ma Nakorn) thumbs up

Brilliant, abstract, surreal and funny.

I will not go into too much detail as I hope enough of you will
make the effort to go and see it.

Creative cinematic invention in Thailand ! It begins with the
cast and Bangkok singing to the audience then moves to a
‘Chaplinesque’ Modern Times beginning. The hero ‘Pod’
reminded me for some reason of Daniel Bedingfield the pop
singer. Not of course Bedingfield, Bedingfield & Pugh the legal firm.

Maybe he should be named iPOD ?

I so enjoyed this film, it really brightened up a windy rainy day.

If this is an example of Thai film making well all I can say is that
they have an obvious talent for it.

About nine years ago I got into what is termed ‘World Music’ by
the London record shops. Cuban & African added to my life-long
love of Brasilian music.

The London Film Festival dubbed this film part of ‘World Cinema’
and like ‘World Music’ this is where my interest lies.

Hollywood can make its expensive catalogue of special effects with a
poor script and lousy dialogue and call it film I am staying with the
so-called ‘World Cinema’.

Give yourself a treat and go and see ‘Citizen Dog – Ma Nakorn’.

Promotional credits:-

Village boy Pod, who has a certain naive charm but generally lives up to his name, moves to Bangkok and works in a variety of menial jobs. Maybe it's the effect of the uniform, but when he's working as an office security guard he gets the feeling that he could win the heart of Jin, a career woman too focused on her allergies and her obsession with a book in a strange language to even notice him. Undeterred, Pod starts driving a taxi so that he can chauffeur her around - until the day she becomes an eco-warrior and quits her job to concentrate on ridding the world of plastic... Wisit's long-awaited follow-up to Tears of the Black Tiger uses CGI to transform present-day Thailand into a Brothers Grimm realm, complete with a highly developed dark side: this Bangkok is a city in which every man except Pod grows a tail, simply because it's the fashion. A sardonic narration (voiced by Pen-ek Ratanaruang, director of Monrak Transistor and Last Life in the Universe) clinches the tone, somewhere between JM Barrie and Antonin Artaud. The spectacular visuals are beyond prodigious.

You have probably heard Daniel Beddingfield's records while you sup your Chang in the bar ! Also his sister Natasha.

One of his records is an absolute classic ! = 'If You're Not The One'

Thanks for the link about the DVD. There are some Thais I know living in the west who would love to get this film.

The film is funny and surrealistiaclly absurd !
