There are stories about 12 children abducted in Cha-am and Petchburi last Friday. Also I heard that 4 children were abducted from the Hua Hin Municipallity School yesterday.
Has anybody more information about this? |

I sincerely hope that this is not true but sometimes Hua Hin might as well be 100 KM from Cha Am when it comes to news. I certainly haven't heard anything today but check out this topic. Hopefully is it the same story that has just been exaggerated a bit.

Dolly P,
I would like to ask, where are the stories about 12 children being abducted? and who's going around telling you about the 4 children being abducted from Hua Hin.
Is it the same source for both stories, is it in black and white anywhere or has it been on the news.
I'll bet the answers are "yes", "no" and "no".
These scare stories done the rounds not so long ago and were subject of debate on this forum and no proof or credible explanation was offered/available to substantiate any of them.
They are a pile of rubbish in my opinion and the quicker they are dismissed the better.
If anyone comes up with an accredited source which confirms these stories, then I'll eat my hat.
I don't think that'll be anytime soon though.
These are serious allegations, so lets stick to some facts and not go down this stupid scaremongering road again.
ps.
I should have looked at the date of the original post before I replied, however my comments stand |

I totally disagree 2dandan.
If someone hears something that they beleive could be credible, then it should be reported. Especialy a subject such as this.
You you really beleive that EVERYTHING that is true id printed in black & white?? (I assume you mean a newspaper). Do you have so much faith in local and international journalism, that everything printed is true, and if its not printed then it didn't happen?
Yes, this story did the rounds recently.
Would you have reacted in such a way, if Dolly P had added comment to that thread instead of creating a new one?
And by the way, I didn't see Dolly P alleging any thing, just requesting information/clarification. _________________ Only the crumbliest, flakiest Winkie.... |

Sarge/Winkie,
What news was this reported on?
I'm not blinded by "fact" that everything is printed in black and white blah blah blah, but don't try and tell me that the local newspapers, The Bangkok Post and The Nation have so much news coming in, that they can afford to totally disregard or totally miss this story.
Journalism as it is, generally means that they will sensationalise something of this nature and run with it for as long as they can to fill column inches.
Everytime this story resurfaces, it comes in the manner of "I heard" or "somebody told me" and as such I regard it as an urban myth.
For your info, the Police in the UK routinely visit every school to warn the children "not to go with strangers"
This doesn't mean that there are mass child kidnappings taking place.
This is a serious subject and I'm not trivialising it in any way, but stories of this nature need to be properly sourced and verified before they become accepted and then restated as facts. |

Dandan
I am in complete agreement and before putting stories like this in a forum there should be more credential than "i heard, someone said....etc" even in thailand there would be newspaper write up...too much of a story with so many children involved to let go unrecorded...

Since the first thread began many weeks ago, I've seen nothing in the Bangkok Post or The Nation. When it started I asked my partner to keep an eye open in Thai Rath and she hasn't noticed anything either.
On the other hand, I am sure in Bangkok and other large cities there are kidnappings almost daily (assumption). Maybe there is a gentlemen's agreement, at least with the English publications, not to report as not to alarm?
You know they'll do just about anything not to jeapordize tourism. Pete |

Pete bang on my friend i also would point out the thais would not just gaily accept it and controll of the media is rife here unfortunately but to put the police shouting it fom the loudspeakers of every school in hua hin
just does not make any kind of sense if nothing happened _________________ A Greatfull Guest of Thailand |

Pete and Sarge,
I think that you are both kidding yourself on and are totally deluded in your thinking.
If you choose to deceive yourself and believe rumour rather than reported fact, then you both live in a world of fantasy, where any wild theory is accepted as fact.
To suggest that the English language newspapers don't report this, so as to not cause alarm beggars belief.
Did they NOT report the bombings at New Year. Did they NOT report the murders of the poor Russian girls in Pattaya. Did they NOT report the military coup in September. Did the NOT report the financial changes.
I don't need to answer that because the facts speak for themselves.
Sarge's lack of some facts also speak volumes.
He previously reported as fact, that this was on the news (but has failed to respond with facts - what news was it on).
He now states that the Police broadcasts at the schools do not make sense " if nothing happened".
Hardly the statement of someone, who previously reported as fact, that it was on the news.
I would also like to point out that in a single sentence Pete said "I am sure" and he also added "(assumption)".
This brings me back to my original point...... Urban myth.
Nothing more, nothing less.
No facts, no figures, no truth. |

I have said this on another thread. For some reason the Thai authorities don't want this story out. I have personally met a teacher at Cha Am school who was at the school when a child was taken away in a van. There were about 6 police cars and a lot of commotion at the school. The next day a truck with a loud speaker was driving around the roads asking for information. The teachers at the school were instructed to keep quiet about it. It was on ITV news and was in the paper, but then, suddenly, there was a complete black out of reporting. This is not scare mongering. I can understand someone thinking it is because the stories are so incredible and lacking open reporting. There could be an explanation. Perhaps the police have captured the kidnappers and are trying to find people at the head of a gang, so perhaps they don't want reporting until the case is solved, or perhaps its just a simple 'domestic' between father or mother. I have formed a considered opinion that these stories may not be completely true and may be distorted, due to the chinese whispers syndrome, but something strange is going on as regards the ability to report it and I have heard too much credible evidence to believe the story lacks foundation.
Only 3 days ago my girlfriend was reading a local paper for Phetburi province. There was a picture of an 11 year old boy. It was a "This Boy Is Missing Appeal". |

2dandan,
let's turn this round the other way... do you have proof that this is urban myth & that none of these abductions happened?
I have no idea, either way, but it is something that my boyfriend said was fairly common. That could mean two things - it could tie in with the urban myth theory, or it could mean that these matters are so common that they don't get reported anymore.
Think of burglaries; do domestic burglaries make it into the national press? Unless it's Mr T or similar being burgled, of course they don't, because it happens a lot. There is the possibility that this is a similar scenario. Maybe too many children from too many provinces go missing... _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? to all
Well if the last thread is true then we know this has happened in cha am at the very least...saying this...and god forbid this happening to my 2 young boys..as well as any other children...living in europe too and specially in the UK...i know that many children (as in not 18 yet) do go missing from their home in the UK and are never found...check this out;
http://missingkids.co.uk/
http://www.missingpersons.org/
So if you look at some of the stories it sadly happens in the UK 2.... we need to bring it back in context...not being less excusable and i am sure if we coud do something to avoid it...we all would here...what we need to keep in mind that we do not spread illinform rumours..and as previously stated keep to the facts...otherwise it makes it worse...
