|
|
I will be in HH for next 6 - 8 weeks and am interested in hiring a car with driver for some day trips or multi-day ... even may consider a 7 day or month contract if more cost effective. Any tips/reccomendations ? I did not get my International license so am uncomfortable driving here on a foreign licence only.
Appreciate all help |

Hi, this is probably a bit late, but I can recommend an American friend of mine called Mark Baldwin, phone no. 051832015. He lives in HH, speaks Thai and owns a car, and is always looking to earn a buck or two.
Give him my regards if you get to speak to him (Tony) |

Last year (Apr 2003) the travel desk at the Hilton connected me to a nice couple (I presumed) to drive me around. The wife understood and spoke a little English. I don't know ANY Thai and we got along just fine. She helped me learn a little Thai along the drive. The husband was the driver. They took me sightseeing (temples, Elephants, Khao Takiap-monkeys, catfish farm, teak Palace) for about 4-5 hours. If I remember correctly I had agreed on 1500baht and as I had a good time I tipped them a few as well. AND, they even paid the fee for the Teak Palace and bought refreshments at Khao Takiap, fishfood at the catfish farm, milk for the baby elephant at the elephant park. When I tried to buy them a soda, they wouldn't have it. They treated me as their guest. (so the tip really probably covered what I would have spent on these additional expenses)
Considering the taxi from BKK to HuaHin is about 1700 for a three hour drive, I felt like it was a better than fair price for a customized personal tour.
I'm coming back and intend to use them again.
Here's the info from the business card they gave me:
Taxi for Rent
Sopha Sukpray
(01)9817514
6 Moo 3 Tambol Hinlekfai Hua Hin
Prachaubkirikhun 77110 Thailand
Have a great time |

1500 for a 4-5 hours trip around Hua Hin seems a bit pricy to me. You should be able to get this for less than 1000 baht. _________________ 知彼知己, 胜乃不殆; 知天知地, 胜乃可全
