Apparently there is cable on the development on which my wife and I have bought our house. What are the advantages/disadvantages of cable vs. satellite TV?

I understand that cable is about 250 Bt per month whereas satellite is around 2000 Bt per month. Apart from the cost (if I have got it right, that is) what are the main differences in services, english language content, reliability etc? At the very least I would like to get some English language news - preferably BBC or CNN.
