| Lets hope the monks and supporters in Myanmar last longer than Burger, because he's gone from this forum for good now. So no need to humour him any more... |

My two satang on the name. It was changed from Burma to Myanmar and I thing Rangoon to Yangoon by this unelected junta that has been in control since 1988. It's not a legal government and it's not a legal name change. Once they're gone, I think it's back to Burma and Rangoon. | Why isn't George W. invading? He advocates democracy and freedom for all people doesn't he? Suppose no oil or other business interests overthere. An open door I know but I couldn't help myself kicking it in for once. |

The poor Burmese have certainly had enough of their thug rulers but they shouldn't get their hopes up that the west will do anything more than huff and puff, hold meetings and issue ringing declarations.
Sanctions? Don't make me larf. The generals can sell all the drugs they need to buy anything they want.

Seems Thailand has the answer -- export a few of these!!!!
Wai the need for violence?
PHITSANULOK: Religious institutions are intended to be places of peace and goodwill, but a temple in Phitsanulok recently proved to be anything but when a monk who thought a nun had disrespected him responded by beating her.
At 9 am August 21, Maechi Phronchon Chomphukpan, 53, a nun at Wat Ban Khek in Nakhon Thai District, walked into the local district police station with her face swollen and covered in bruises. There she recounted to Duty Officer Lt Thanaphon Mekbut a bizarre story of intra-wat aggression.
Maechi Phronchon, who had lived at the temple for decades, said that the previous afternoon she had been walking to the bathroom behind the temple when she passed by a resident monk, identified only as “Phra Nom”, who was sleeping in a hammock. Suddenly the cleric shouted at her, demanding to know why she had not graced him with a wai.
“Nuns have to wai monks whenever they pass them,” he exclaimed allegedly in a drunken manner.
Maechi Phronchon apologized, saying that she had not noticed him. This was not good enough for Phra Nom, however. He launched into a tirade of insults so severe that Maechi Phronchon could only stand cowed, she said.
After his insults had run dry, Phra Nom demanded that Maechi Phronchon go and fetch her bankbook so he could “check that she had not been embezzling temple funds”. Maechi Phronchon refused on the grounds that Phra Nom was just a rank-and-file monk, with no authority to inspect her financial records.
This only to enraged Phra Nom further. Jumping down out of his hammock, he slapped and punched her until she fell down, she told police. He then sat on Maechi Phronchon’s neck and banged her head against the ground and wall until her face was bruised and bloodied. _________________ Why does my head feel so bad why does my soul feel so bad - Moby (Dick)

| A Burmese news site based in India is reporting that an elderly monk died today after being beaten by the police in Yangon. Five other protesters have been admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds after police fired “over” the demonstration. |

Myanmar's Leading General Tan Shwe is adicted to spendor and pomposity plus he is very superstitous.
A small report by germanies leading News Website tagesschau.de that the oldest Member of the Military Junta Tan Shwe sees himself as the reincarnation of the King of Myanmar. One of his secret Stategies is to keep everthing that he does in secrecacy so he can suprise everyone and therefore rule the Country longer.
He had changed the Seat of the Government from Rangoon to a place 400 Klicks up north to in the Jungle called Aus Naypyidaw translated "Abode of Kings" apparently from the advice of his Panel of Astrologers. They even set a minutous Date and Time when the move should took place.
Deispite his brutal Rule Tan Shwe see himself as a Leader with a vision. He wants apparently to be a complaisant King for the People and History.
It's been said that the National Media is forbidden to Publish any Pictures of Him. But on the occasion of his Daughters marriage there had been a of wearing very expensive Jewellry. In All The Marriage Party of his Daughter was expansive as ever. Champne was flowing en mass and it's been said that This Occasion had devoured up three times the Heakthcare buget of an entire year.
Many Members of his Junta are also living such a lavish lifestyle. It's been said that one son of the Generals is flying back and forth from Rangoon to Singapore on a daily basis for study purposes.
Most Burmese people can only dream about the wealth and rich lifestyles Tan SHwe and his Generals are enjoying. The General Public quest is the daily task how to feed themselves and their families.

| According to reports from Burmese news-sites, nine people were killed today (27/9) during clashes with the forces of the junta. A Japanese photo-journalist was killed and another foreign journalist, possibly American, was wounded. Last night several hundred monks were arrested during raids on monasteries. |

One of the most high-profile American interventions has come from First Lady, Laura Bush, who has long expressed her concern about the situation in Burma.
Yesterday she turned up the heat on China, which is Burma's biggest trading partner, and she did that during an interview with the BBC.
LAURA BUSH: I think the more pressure we can put on China to join us, the more important it will be. I know China wants a very successful Olympics, and I think if the Burmese military regime really have a violent repression of this protest, it will reflect badly on China.
I just want to urge China to join us and join the rest of the Security Council. They have more influence than any other country does on the regime. _________________ Per Angusta In Augusta.
