In the unlikely event of a vehicle breakdown(god/buddha forbid) is there such a reliable organisation such as the RAC in Thailand to assist or R U best left to your own defences and forced to wave 1000Bht notes at passer bys?

If you are waving 1000's around I'll give you a jump start or a tow
Run out of fuel a few times and got the car stuck in a ditch once .Always found friendly locals to help .I don't know if there is a nationwide organisation but would not bother joining anyway .Imagine the difficulty explaining where you were .Anyone who has asked for directions off the beaten track in Thailand ,even in fluent Thai, will know what I mean .
How long do you think it would be before they turned up only to tell you after an hour of head scratching .
"mmm, yes, car broken "
Irritating as it is that simplistic attitude always makes me smile and is one of the things that endears me to Thai people .
A few years ago I was working for a national chain of diving schools .The owner was on his way from samui by speedboat and would be arriving in 20 minutes .We had a problem .The boat had sunk in the harbour overnight and all you could see was the radio mast .We could not ask the crew what had happened as they were underwater attaching barrels to the boat .We ,in short had ,as resort managers ,no answers for the owner and his vip guests .Luckily the captain surfaced and came back to shore on the longtail .When asked how the boat had sunk he raised his sunglasses, looked at us like we were either mad or stupid and said...
"water come inside"
Nicky collapsed sobbing and I collapsed laughing .Thankfully the owners attitude was that boats do that when they are not floating and took us to the pub for the afternoon .

In answer to the OP what I do with my bike is have the number of the bike garage in my phone and call em when the beastie dies on me. I find a bit of shade and a beer and they usually turn up within an hour or so.
Maybe you could do the same with your car....? _________________ If I can't smoke and swear I'm f****d!
