Just reacting to the way it came across in your post.
And what I said was:
| Quote: | | It just seems like we are missing an opportunity to build a bit of real-time, real life, non-internet community here. |
"real-time" "real life" and "non-internet" refer to "community."
I have loads of books and need some more.
Jim lets see if we can drum up a bit more interest. .maybe a new thread?
PS. I have retired from teaching at Stamford and super glad of it! They have now moved to Bkk and I just dont see myself living in the Big Mango.
As for Saturday 25th, I will try to be there. But I just want to comment that last Saturday the traffic in town was horrific. I was 30 minutes stuck between the two traffic lights and its a day I like to avoid town if at all possible. |

Chas,
I don't know how well you know the roads around town, or where you'd be coming from or how (own transport or taxi/tuk tuk/motosai) but it is possible to get to Dick's Office without the need to go on to the busy section of Phetkasem Road in town. The only snarl up you can't avoid if coming from the canal road is the railway crossing after Gee Untung supermarket but other than that it is possible to get around any others I think. |

Hopefully my wife +/or her sister will be attending. As sister has young dogs she cannot be away from home for too long so may I not be able to stay after the swap as I'm designated driver. Plus visitors are arriving that day but we don't know what time yet!! So we may be 3 or 2 but I at least should be there.
Would be interested in another get together without the books . |

Hi Chas
I'm a non-drinker/smoker/beer bar hound so we now have 3 who are interested in connecting. I'll be at the book swap next week, so say hello. I do think that all members should have each others contact numbers in case of crisis. i.e. Cambodia invades Thailand. Global banks crash and starvation results or I need to bum a cup of sugar.

Sorry, I have been mightily distracted lately with midterm evaluations & grading.
I will try to make it today ( Saturday) but the town is crammed with Bangkok folks celebrating phraRam 5 birthday.
I will be there a bit late though. Probably closer to 5 as I want to combine this with attending Octoberfest at the Marriott and I certainly dont want to make two trips into town on a holiday weekend!
I hope that Dick does not shut his doors at 4. .and that a few good books are left. |

Apologies for being unable to attend. Had to take one dog to vetnry hospital this morning and big rainstorms this afternoon meant I was otherwise occupied baling out the garden before we had a bigger water feature than planned. Hopefully will make the next one. Hope you all had a successful swap!!

Me too. Got trapped in the underground car park in Tesco. Some absent-minded gentleman left his hand-brake on. Had to wait for him to move.
Next time. |

Not! Only four people showed up for this book swap so I would not call it a big success.
I fought the horrendous traffic at a very awkward time of day (and week), and had to park three blocks away . .not to mention the heavy rain. And I probably would have given it a miss if I didnt have to go to Bangkok today and had run out of decent reading material.
Despite all that, it was a personal success because I now have a bag full of new reading material at no cost.
For those who missed it, there is a bookshelf at the back which got refilled with the leftovers so you might check it out.
In a week or two or three, I plan to start a new thread. .with a new time, day and place. |

Exactly.
Frankly, 4 people turning up was pretty good, considering the weather! Personally, I had to make a choice between going to the bookswap and letting a tree fall on my house. It was a fairly small tree, so the choice wasn't easy...
Chas, you've made it quite clear that you don't like Saturday afternoons and want more than just a 'swap'. A few of us have already suggested that you organise something and try it. I think it's a good idea. _________________ Never argue with a man carrying a water buffalo... |
