Give me a break.
Why not?
You would ask for it in the UK, so why not here as well? |
In the UK you also wouldn't buy a house you never can own legally, right?
(Sorry, to be cynical!)
On the other side I'd like to read the whole story from stribley, too, although I think it won't be very different from many other "house-buying-stories" in TH.

My name is Mark Stribley from the UK, and I wish to share a bitter experience from Hua Hin in Thailand. I first visited Hua Hin in Feb 2006 and fell in love with the place. In June 06 I decided that I would like to buy a property in the area and spoke to [ personal and company names edited ]. |
Mark,
A few points here. The site was quite right to edit the names. Where in the western world can you publically accuse before correct procedings have been adhered to.
Ther are of course legal implications.
No one knows who you are, so you could be a competitor just trying to dsicredit your competition.
From what you have written and the fact that you state that you are "Police Staff" I would have thought you would known better than to part with such a sum of money without full legal support and independeant advice first. _________________

Hublet,
Guess is a big fan of checking out members' profiles if he wants to know about them. I've just checked out stribley's and it does indeed state that he is police staff. What you put on your profile is open for any other member to view. So no secret there... _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? Absolute rubbish silverbird, if you bother to look through the property section you will see probably hundreds of posts that are negative towards buying property here. Hardly protection of property sponsors, more like freedom of speech which is good and promotes healthy debate.
You know this full well anyway, as you participated in some of the threads.
Now who is the one not being 'open' here ??

I was watching a swedish tv program last night, about 2 swedish men who
wanted to leave the swedish weather behind, and start a new life in Thailand.(koh samui). They knew about the difficulties owning a thai company so they contacted a world spread law firm, first in stockholm then
in bangkok. They thought it was good it was the same lawfirm.
The stockholm office got them all the paper work done visas, etc.
They sold off what they had in sweden, even took bankloans of 3 mil swedish kronor. Went to thailand to look for a thai partner ,and a place for
the nightclub.Found what they was looking for,so they went to the lawers
office in bangkok and got the rest of the papers done.
Went back to koh samui and started to fix the place up. After 4 month of
building, the Thaipartner and the people working for him stopped to show
up.He had all kinds of problems that needed to be solved first. But he promised to show up later that week .But never did.
The lawfirm both in stockholm and in Bangkok would not help them, because they were only responsible for the paperwork before the buy.
So now they are back in sweden, with loans and debths over the head, trying to get the swedish office to help them.they have refused so far
,but maybe after the tv program, they will get the help they need.
so if you get a laywer i guess it best to make sure they are on your side
all the way. |

Interesting story Ting Tong but only a tenuous link to the original post.
IMHO this thread should be locked as it started with an unsubstantiated claim from a first poster, against a local company and named names that luckily the mods got to quickly enought to edit. The story itself has been removed so it has now become meaningless.
I would always welcome an open forum where the ever changing pitfalls of investment in Thailand are discussed. I do not think naming of names and pointing fingers helps anybody. If anybody has been wronged I think they should go a little bit further down the line before publicising on this site.
What you have witten (Ting Tong) is fine but what is has done is brought this now dead topic back to life and on the front page. I do appreicate that was not the intention hence my argument for locking. _________________

Agreed Guess - although you & I have just kept it up there, too!
What I find interesting is that there has been no further input by the OP. Maybe he's been too busy?... _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? But, can they suffer?" - Jeremy Bentham, philosopher, 1748-1832

Hey there,
I don't know about anyone else but I PM'd Stribley to get the story and I did get it. I understand why you had it edited and it would have been hard to do anything else with it as it had names all the way through the story. I also understand why Stribley is so pissed.
I have heard some stories about con men and rip offs but that one beats the cake. Okay maybe he was silly in paying for his house in full and up front but I know many Farang who have done similar things (and paid badly for it).
Unfortunately trust, business ethics and morality are not so common these days. |

It would be nice if the original poster could add some further comments
It does seem a short time to begin a barrage of accusations after only a few months of waiting | Quote: | | (In June 06 I decided that I would like to buy a property) |
Yes, the lack of communication is a concern and the monies involved but one post and then silence is to me is a tad on the (sorry) sus side, im sure i would be a little more persistant and diplomatic if it was my funds that were at stake
And the assumption that his money is lost is a little premature after only 4 months
Things are done at a much slower pace here and as he said the property is /was under construction at the time the deposit was paid so there is a physical entity
nb never sign any contracts outside the kingdom of Thailand ,Any contracts to be honored in Thailand, are not valid unless signed and witnessed here in Thailand, as stated on many occasions use a reputable independent lawyer there are such people in Thailand despite opinion to this not being the case
also dont pay deposits outside Thailand pay only to A company account within Thailand same as the contracts if you pay outside Thailand, your proof of payment will only be recognised if payment is made in Thailand _________________ "I don't often agree with the RSPCA as i believe it is an animals duty to be on my plate at supper time" |
