What on Earth are you on?  In just 2 sentences you start off talking about open type bars, and end up with Air Conditioned kitchens. In between you mention live bands, and great food.
Do actually read some of the rubbish you write? By all means have your say/opinion, but please have a thought for those of us trying to read/understand it.

Sorry for the delay, have a had a great Christmas, amazed people still post here during the festive season, tells a story in itself I suppose.
Big Boy
Not sure of the type of establishments you are used to, but a standard decent kitchen is not open air.
Crawfords Cha Am has the best kitchen you could possibly wish for, full aircon and stainless fittings. The Kitchen is part of the main building which has a restaurant and toilets. The garden area includes a seating area as part of the restaurant overflow and the bar, complety open air.
Worth a visit, 20 km from Hua Hin.
Hope this calarify's "open air bar" for you.

Thanks for the clarification - I understand where you are coming from now.
Each of us has our own choice/likes/dislikes. My preference is to sit at in the open type of bar. I've tried the likes of Crawfords in Hua Hin, and those of us who ventured in on that occasion agreed that it was fantastic - just like a piece of England (or Ireland) in the heart of Hua Hin. However, we all concluded that we had come to Thailand for something different - not to sit in a little piece of England.
So while we appreciated the work and effort that had gone in to Ken's bar, we decided that it was not our cup of tea. However, there were many ex-pats and holiday makers who thought differently, and were thoroughly enjoying themselves. I must admit, it was nice to sit down and have a real pint of beer.
As has been said many times on this thread, it is down to personal choice. If Ken's place was down our local High Street here in the UK, I'd probably frequent it quite regularly.
Regarding kitchens, as long as they are clean, I will quite happily eat food that has come from an air conditioned spotless kitchen, or an open air 'Thai Style' kitchen. I've not suffered a stomach problem for a while, but the last time it happened, the food had been prepared in an air conditioned kitchen - however, I doubt whether there was anything wrong with kitchen or its methods. I suspect it was the treatment the food suffered before it arrived at the kitchen. Stomach upsets go with the territory - if you eat out anywhere in the world, you are at some risk that the food will disagree with you.

Good post Big Boy. Sums up things well. Different people have different preferences. Would be very boring if everybody was the same. I would be pleased to have a beer with you when you are next in HH. I drink in lots of other places so shouldn't be hard to find a place we both we like. I like plenty. Variety is the spice of life.  |

I agree 100%. I enjoy myself in Ken's just as much as I enjoy myself in the Railway Bar.
I have one question to ask. Does the air conditioning have any benefit for the customer or is it just to improve the working conditions of the staff?

| i like the rustic feel of the bars in hua hin . (would like a decent toilet though ) if all the bars were like the sawnky bars in london , i would not want to go. |

Personally I think it benifits both parties (staff and customers). Must admit I would normally walk into town from where I was staying in HH and would always make my 1st stop Crawfords, as it was nice to sit in somewhere that had full airconditioning so as I could cool down before I moved on anywhere else.
I would also say that it would assist the staff as well, as they are working in a much more comfortable enviroment than in some of the other bars when the weather is very hot.

ched27 i like concrete block bogs full if sliced limes but even if they are white and pristine why do they always put them under the stairs with my paunch and the leaning back my sharpshooter status is definitely under threat 
Plus my age and prostate mean my lack of pressure mean i ant bounce it of the walls hence i stopped wearing socks nine years ago
Rustic that word worries me my mate keeps using it

Bamboo grove - great bar and Osmo is a real character, bit out of town but well worth a visit. Good grub too

Sorry, I did not ask the question correctly. What I meant was, does air-conditioned the kitchen that skandii kept referring to have a benefit to the customers. I mean is it considered too be more hygienic or something like that.
I have cooked in my kitchen in hot weather and it can become quite uncomfortable even with two 18 inch extractor fans on the go the whole time.
