I think that most Thais shower twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. I also reckon that a minimum of one shower a day is necessary if you want Thai people to treat you with any degree of respect. Very Happy As long as you look presentable and smell reasonably clean, you should have no problems getting along with the natives. You see, Thais are usually tolerant towards us farangs because we sweat so much in comparison, but there is no need to abuse this guys! Very Happy

PS. Why are the British renown for being soap dodgers? Very Happy

One shower a day certainly would not be enough for Thailand in my opinion. When i am in Thailand i shower at least three times a day. First after getting up, then before going out in the evening, and often i will have showered during the day after working up a sweat, and finally before bed (a necessity to please the ladies)

Never let it be said that my low season posts are off the wall! Razz

I believe that a rural Thai would be twice, once in the wee hours and once when he returns from the fields or shop in the late afternoon. Then, a spritz of powder or Thai cooling lotion and down for some serious drinking for a few hours on the porch before bed and while his mia is watching Thai soaps (Lomu note Razz)

The Urban Thai young stud may well be three. Morning, before conquest, and right before/during/or after conquest. This of course depends upon his success at the disco or karoke. The female conquestee would for sure be three or more.

Farangs don't sweat that much once the blood thins out, except after a heavy night of beer drinking. After one of those and in the afternoon sun, just jump into a pool or the sea as an intermediate remedy. You can then of course return to the bar until you begin sweating again. We can save water and soap by continued jumping into bodies of water until it is time to go home. Cheers Pete

Interesting..... I live in Bangkok and I can tell you that a lot of Thais (men mostly) smell really bad.

some you can't even come within 10 yards of the smell is so bad.... it's like the Other Thais are completely oblivious to it... or they can't smell it? or that's a reason why they shove them Inhalers in their nose every 2 minutes LOL

I shower 3 times a day most of the time

Luckily, I'm indoors most of the day. So I don't sweat a lot. But I shower at least once a day.

Shower Etiquette..

Taking a shower: Remove your clothes and carefully get into the shower. If you feel weak, ask someone to stay near while you are showering. Ask this person to wash and rinse your back if you cannot reach it yourself. Get that person to use soap to wash your body and rinse with water.

101 uses for a TG... Very Happy

I voted for other and was asked for an explanation so here it is.

I have never showered in the last four years in Thailand because the water is dirty. I went to Paris 4 years ago and had a shower in a hotel there because I was told that the water in Paris was so clean that you could drink it.

I do not have any sense of smell so odours are irrelavent to me.

Being eco concious I do not like to waste the Earth's natural resources. What will we do when the water runs out like the oil has.

That's hardly likely, in fact the problem will be too much water in the future. At the rate that US carbon emissions are going, the ice caps will have melted in 50 years & much of the earths land mass will be under water. *thinks wayerworld* Sad

Well that's good news. I shall have a shower straight away but take the precaution of keeping my clothes on so as not to get dirtied with the water.

I am a little worried though about clogging up the drains with four years worth of smeg.

I will get the Testhabahn on standby.

If the polar caps melt does that mean we can get to the giganitc oilfield in Antarctica and cause even more devastation by using that one up as well.
