I'm always intrigued by comments about security, access, what can and cannot impact against you etc. and the naievity involved.

Goerge Orwell was only a few years out.

Just accept it, you can't challenge it, its not worth the stress.

That's about right. Cetainly speeding convictions are meant to come off the central police comuter after 3 years - 5 if the traffic offence results in a ban. Other more serious offences involving children, murder etc never really do.
You just have to look at the fact that the prosecution can bring up instances of "previous bad character" now during a trial. Previously, this was not permitted unless the defence was painting the defendant whiter than white - then the prosecution could rebut. (English law).
Grorge Orwell - certainly. Especially in these days of international terrorism.

Caller. all criminal convictions in Australia do not become spent until 10 years after the conviction.
They do not automatically fall off your record, you have to apply to have them made into a spent conviction.
Although spent, they stay on your record, but if you apply for a job and you need a police clearance, they do not show up on the clearance.
In relation to driving convictions (other than drink/driving), I think that it come offs your licence after 5 years, but if you have to go back to court after that again, the Judge still has access to your complete driving record from when you 1st got a licence in the country.
Cheers Do not drink and drive as you may spill your drink
