Our house phone is never used for calls, just internet. For a few months we've had very erratic service...no dial tone...connection speeds between 9.0kps and 51kps, frequent cut off's etc. By going to our neighbor's houses with my laptop, we found it was not the ISP causing the problem but the phone.
Each time we have called and really verbally abused TOT and each time they would tweak their switches or whatever and the service would improve for a few days.
Finally this morning, they came to the house and found that all of the phone lines within the house had a bad short and this had been caused by ants eating the insulation off of the phone wires up in the rafters. This house is 12 years old.
I'm now operating on a new line strung from the street and through the trees and hanging outside my office door on a hook with a phone outlet on the end of it, and my internet has been excellent all day.
The electrician comes Friday to replace all the phone lines up in the area between the ceilings and the roof.
So, if you're here in Thailand and on dial-up and experiencing similar, get the flashlight and Baygon bug spray and go take a look up there. It appears these things will eat just about anything. Pete |

The best one I ever had from the TOT techies was that my connection was Ok at 5am, but by the time it got to 10am it was cloudy and so an interruped service.
I did point out to the techies that my connection was through a phone line, not the atmosphere.
They smiled and went away.
Number one : they're not as stupid as you think.
Number two: Yes they are.
Number three: So are you.
Kick them into touch. They're always good, coming round here, but they spout rubbish. When it's trash, tell them so. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |
