any comments on Araya Residence ?

never stayed.... but one knows for a fact it is run very well and not one complaint.. but to be sure go stay and make ones own mind up and please let us know..

I have just returned from my stay at the Araya and was going to write a review so perhaps I can answer, or at least give my opinion.

I booked the Private Chalet on the 5th floor for 2 weeks - no lift so be prepared for a bit of a climb. The rooms are spacious and clean, with mini bar, tv, dvd player and perhaps the largest showerhead I've ever seen in my life!!! The chalet also features a private patio area for sunbathing. There are no kitchen facilities in the hotel but you get a voucher for breakfast at the cafe next door.
The location is literally 2 minutes from the beach down Chomsin Road and 5 minutes down Poolsuk road gets you into the heart of HH (and yes, the Araya is guest friendly) - theres even a couple of nice bars along the way if you don't feel you can make it all the way there without refreshment!!!!

Last year I stayed at the Sofitel, but decided to go somewhere else this time - I'm glad I did. I have begun to move towards the smaller hotels for one main reason - the level of service they provide. I don't know how many people the Sofitel can accommodate but, whilst its an impressive structure, the place is impersonal -not so the Araya!. With only 12 rooms, the staff offer a level of service that is simply excellent. These small places rely on word of mouth and seem to go out of their way to make you feel not just welcome, but actually at home - nothing is too much trouble to ensure the stay is everything that you want.

One last thing that really stands out for me is this: On the morning of checkout I came to pay only to find that they did not accept credits cards. After a fruitless search to find an ATM that would give me some money the owner accepted my word that I would tranfer they money to them on my return home - how many places do you know would trust you to leave the country and send the money later? If for no other reason than this, I cannot rate the Araya Residence highly enough. Would I stay there again? - already booked for December (this time paying up front!!!)

Ultimately, I don't know your taste or what exactly you're after so perhaps its best to make up you're own mind, but I'm already looking forward to revisiting my new home-away-from-home in 3 months time!!
