I am trying to understand Jaime's predicemnet here. I guess from what he has said that he lives in Wales with an Asian (probably Thai) lady.

Well all I can say is that I wish you all the very best of luck and I wish you all the hapiness in the world.

If anybody shouts complete bollocks to you from the security of a moving car, take down the number and report them to the police. I am sure that even in the darkest regions of Wales that racism is illegal and enforceable.

But maybe not. I understand that in many states in the US that racism is still encouraged and acceptedeven today.

Anyway if I (for some reason) had to return to the UK and suffered racial abuse I would fight with great ferocity.

Sorry for the repeat rant but racism like communism (ditto nationalism) has no place on this planet and belongs in a long past era that hopefully fizzled out at the end of the second world war.

Education is the future.

Hi Guess,

Thanks for your comments & kind words but there is no predicament really - just getting on with life. To be honest there is a small minority of people who stare and an even smaller minority of those who actually dish out abuse (my wife has also had coins thrown at her from a passing bus on more than one occasion but I suppose that could have happened to anyone). These people tend to fall into the 'White Trash' category (I am white before anyone complains!) and I generally feel rather contemptuous of them when I sense their stare boring into me. I don't think Thai people (or other Orientals for that matter) here in the UK jump on the racism bandwagon too much - all down to mai pen rai and the fact that they are probably too busy denigrating some of their Asian neighbours to notice any mud flying their way! Lol!

No, I was just putting the idealistic principle of live and let live (with which I would generally agree) into a more realistic context. I.e. You'll never escape the bigots and pretending they are not there doesn't make them go away.

I am sorry Jaime,

It must be quite terrible for your wife.

I lived in London for much of my life (for financial rather than aesthetic or spiritual purposes) and racism was a constant topic of conversation between myself, my Arab, Pakistani, Indian, Afghani, Turkish, Greek, Irish, Scots, Welsh, Iraqi and even English friends. The general consensus of opinion was that racism is illogical and unacceptable in any form whatsoever.

Politics of course is a completely diferent subject.

Throwing coins (which could cause serious injury)
at a complete stranger just because his or her skin colour is diferent from the agressor confounds belief.

What kind of morons still exist on our planet and why can we not exterminate them.

Look forward.

Maybe be should organise a massive scooter ride to South Wales.

I just jump in to answer Bamboo quest. In Vietnam normally man are not getting married after the age 60.

- They are regarding themselve as old man and if they want to married they will find a women around 50-60 to take care off him.

- 80% VNese man over 60 look older than their age and I don't think they still feel there is fun to live in this life. All their saving money went direct to their children accounts, their only job todo is reading newspaper and take care of grand child.

Oh I have to head for a blab blab now will come back later

Burn the witch! Burn the witch! I can imagine the instigater of this thread chanting these words in a past life! It would be nice if ageism didn't exist, but in real life, age differences can be a considerable barrier in relationships, not because of the age, but the differences in attitudes that the age represents as a stereotype.

All these "lonley" men who find happyness with a younger girl should I suppose go home and live alone with no visitors in a western world that treats old age as if it were a disease.

What makes you think the poster of this thread is a man? I got the feeling it was one of the stereotype "large bottomed, sun reading, British androminous females" that many of us are over here escaping from! Wink

Just reread Aligator, and certainly does sound like it was penned from a female perspective. Not sure that many guys worry that much about older gents with younger women!!! Mr. Green I know I dont....

Well spotted Jockey.

It passed through my mind also. The comments (that seem to have a hint of envy) made by the reptile would appear to be of feminine (perhaps female would be a more apt title) origin. Also the mention of visiting Hua Hin in a group sounds female. However the handle Alligator is very macho.

The sentiments were credible and echoed views held by many westerners (as mentioned in areply posting).

The fact that there has been no further input on this forum would indicate that the poster is actually a troll with a message to deliver based on some bizzare religious foundation.

Speak up reptile for for ever hold your peace.

I haven't responded so far to this thread as others have belittled the original poster (troll) very well, but I have just remembered something that happened in Bangkok some years ago. At the time I was just on the brink of making my decision to stay in Thailand, and for my sins was living near to and going out in the Kho San Road. I was in the Gullivers there and met a couple of young guys who had just arrived in LOS for the first time, about to backpack around the country. I would guess that they were in the 18 - 20 age bracket. After a few drinks they asked me if I would 'show' them the infamous Patpong area, which I at first refused to do as I really wasn't that interested in going there, but with the promise that they would pay the taxi and all my drinks ( Cheers ) I agreed.

They both wanted to see a sex show despite my telling them it really wasn't worth it, so we ended up in one of the seedy upstairs places. Of course as soon as we sat down the girls attempted to 'divide and conquer' us but we managed to fend them off with some overpriced drinks. I actually chatted to one of them for a while after, who was young but of legal age, and told her straight that she shouldn't waste her time with us, although she was welcome to sit and chat, and to feel free to approach anyone else when they came in. Shortly after a chap I would guess in his sixties came in, and she duly went to him, and very quickly they were in a darkened corner 'having a good time'. The younger of the two guys with me was outraged, almost to the point of going over and sorting him out, and couldn't bear to stay in the place, so we left. I was a little surprised by his reaction (and so was his friend), and he couldn't comprehend that maybe this guy could be him in 40 years time, that maybe he was a widower, that maybe there was a legitimate personal reason for him being there. It just goes to show that this type of attitude is not restricted to one section of our society, and unfortunately will continue to exist. Incidentally, rather amusingly, the outraged guy had earlier nearly gone off with a ladyboy, only prevented by me and his friend telling him what 'she' was! thumbs up

Well well well Khun Wander. That story confounds belief. There is smut in every city in the world. My advice, take it or leave, it is stay away. Rid the world of backpackers now. The female ones (nom yai mai) are OK but the male ones need a swift kick up the arse.

While in Chang Mai I met a couple who had an enormaous age diference. He was 96 and his lady was twelve. They had a very sweet four year old son and another baby on the way.

They were the nicest elephant family I have ever met.
