I think at the end of the day, you basically get what you pay for. I’ve stayed at budget hotels in the UK, mainly in the vicinity of Heathrow airport, which have been of an appalling standard. If you wrote on a UK forum that you stayed in Hounslow for less than fifty pounds a night, and the room was sub-standard, you wouldn’t get taken all that seriously either.
By the way, if you read the original post, it concludes “I will now wait for the"Flack" comming !!”

I do tend to agree with Marsh concerning the Danish Guest House, that the pictures not quite resembles reality, but on the other hand, how many hotel-pictures do that ?
It has been pointed out to the owner of the Danish Guesthouse, that he should do something about the torn and faded flags on the building, if nothing else, out of respect to the flags.

I agree, that some of charme travelling in asia is that special tropical odeur, but smelling sewer's should be pointed out to the owners, as they indicated open sewer's, that could attract rats and pose a health risc. Have been biten once - nasty experience.

Hi All,

First post here, but I've been keeping an eye on the forum over the past few months as we will be arriving in Hua Hin next month.

For information, the heater over the bath in the Catwomen Guesthouse looks like an electric power-shower, and if it conforms to certain safety standards, is perfectly reasonable in that position. (Most electric showers are within a shower unit anyway).

Apart from that, the majority of the original note is quite positive? Just the usual warnings about not taking photo's at face value.

The major concern in the UK and Europe in general is Carbon Monoxide poisoning - a silent killer - with tragic cases resulting in the death of 2 kids in a resort in Greece.

The point which I was trying to make (it was late for me too) was that the location of the shower/water heater in itself is not a hazard as they are designed to be within shower cubicles (which potentially have standing water) and above baths.

The major danger to most electronic shower/water heaters in Thailand is that their is never an earth wire connected to them.

Having just read the OP about hotel rooms and the state of them brought to mind other postings about mods jumping to the defense of sponsors wahwtever the case. This seems to me to justify a lot of those. This is supposed to be an open forum where people can post of their experiences in HH. It is getting to be more of a club for long term expats wth businesses to promote and pat each other on the back. The OP brought up some relevent points for anybody thinking of using this forum to find accomadation. The scorn, ridicule and distain they recieved was terrible. Surely if these places sponsor / pay then HHAD has some responsibility to ensure that these places bear some resemblance to the photos and following descriptions. My wife and I stopped there for a few days on our way to Kanchanaburi and again on the way back. We checked out some of THE SPONSORS and were very disappointed. I know I can get a room on the KSR for a 120 baht. HH isnt the KSR but some places are charging top dollar for KSR rooms, many run by farang. Stop the scorn, and rather childish replies and maybe stand back and look at how it looks from the other persons perspective. | fear the HH I loved has gone forever and is only a matter of time before it is on par with Pattaya, Phuket, Samuai .
Like anything in this life you get what you pay for, but it seems you get even less these days in HH Im sory to say.

I think your criticism of the board and the mods is rather unjust. 3 mods answered this thread, one being me. WL merely stated that visitors to Thailand will not necessarily get European safety standards, which I think we'll all agree is true. I've been mildly electrocuted in my own home, for pity's sake! Dr. D only questioned the OP's gender. I made 2 posts, one asking whether these were all personal experiences, as I've never heard of anyone visiting that many hotels/GH's in one trip before and the other in support of one of OP's points. Any negative posts did not come from mods.
Where are we showing our bias? Which sponsors did we defend? I'm afraid I can see no evidence of any of your claims, despite having reread the entire thread twice before replying to you. I'm sorry you had less than satisfactory experiences with some of our sponsors. Did you advise them that you weren't happy?
If you would like to pm Lev with any relevant complaints against HHAD or it's sponsors, I'm sure he'd be more than happy to address your concerns
