Walking past the Hilton last night two motorcycles passed me at speed. Bad enough but that's not the real hazard.
The passenger of the second bike turned as he went past and fired what at first I thought was a pump action shotgun at me. It was very realistic with a flash from the barrel when he pulled the trigger. The ball or pellet hit me in the chest and although painful for about a quarter of an hour the damage was mainly to my nerves but it cetainly hit with enough force to take an eye out.
I am pretty sure I saw the same prat later, riding around with something tucked under a longish coat. Watch out for the dickhead. |

About 3 weeks ago I was struck very hard on the back of my head, just behind my right ear by a Thai guy who was a passenger on a passing motorcycle.
I soon discovered that he had hit me with a large empty tin can, it landed on the road beside me. A large bump appeared immediately and some blood. When my friend realised what had happened he started to run after them, but they were too far ahead. I had been at the disco underneath the Hilton with a friend of mine who was visiting Hua Hin.
We were walking back to his guesthouse where my motorbike was parked, just him and I. We had just walked along the road that the Hilton is on, and had turned left at the bend to head towards Fisherman's Wharf.
To this day I still have no idea why this happened or who they were. Some Thai people that I have spoke to about it said it was probably a random act of violence by young Thai males against farang.
Could have been worse I suppose. |

Where there is a small smolder & smoke, the flames only grow faster and bigger. The incident only shows the feelings of some Thai's towards frangs. Hope you report it to the cops. |

Pundi, I have had dealings with the Hua Hin police in the past, and I can tell you that they really aren't interested, especially if there's no money in it for them.
They don't want to work at night anyway, if my wife goes out on her motorbike at night, I ask why she isn't wearing her helmet, she replies; "it's night time, there's no police". |

Although these incidents can and do happen at random there is often something that sparks them in the first place such as an altercation on a motorbike or on the road, or looking at someones girlfriend. The local younger Thai lads often seem to be looking for an excuse to have a go at a falang.
The comments above about the cops are too true. |

| A couple of years ago, I was turning off Petchkasem into the Khao Takiep road. I was in the slip lane and a bike cut in front of me (as they do) at the last moment. I put my foot on the brake and my hand on the horn which blew him over to the right. He followed me home and pulled up as I got out the car. I said "Christ, I nearly run you over because of the way you cut in". He produced a gun, pointed it at me and came out with probably the only English he knew -"F*#$ You". With that he drove off (the wrong way). While telling my wife, he came back and shot two bullets, one into my car and one into the roof of my house. Called the cops who arrived half an hour later. They found the empty shells on the road and asked me to relate the story. After I'd finished, their advice was, "Next time, run him over and kill him". Immagine what trouble this farang would be in if I had! |

HHTel,
That sounds more like the sort of comment I'm used to from the MiB. I reported a domestic incident once & was told that they couldn't (wouldn't) do anything unless I was seriously injured or killed. This was about 10 days after the murder of the British girl on Samui... _________________ "The question is not, can they reason? Nor, can they talk? Just before New Year the security guard on our housing development got shot in the neck. It didn't sound like fireworks to me, so I went and had a look only to find that his friends/family were about to try and take him to hospital on the back of a Honda Wave. I told them to hang on and got the pick-up (on reflection, the motorbike would probably have been quicker...). When I got back 40 minutes or so later, to my surprise the m-i-b were there. I thought they might be interested in my input. You know, trivial details like where the poor guy was, what time it had all kicked off, etc. Not remotely. Never saw or heard from them again. Apparently the security guard lived, but only just. I say 'apparently' because I never saw him again, as he lost his job. _________________ Never argue with a man carrying a water buffalo... |

I'm not sure how it would work here but I always went out of my way to get to know the Sheriff and police in my neighborhood.
It makes a difference when they get a call and they know and like you.
show some respect and you'll usually get some back.
BTW do they have tourist Police here? _________________ Foto

The Tourist Police office that I've seen in Hua Hin is on the Damnoern Kasem Road near the entrance to the beach, between the Sofitel and Central Village - see Hua Hin Map reference F6. _________________ Green Army position 10 2007/08

| Its not just things being thrown from bikes you have to watch out for, my friend while walking down the road towards the sofitel from petchkasem road last night had a motoerbike drive past her and the driver atempted to snatch her bag, luckily for her she kept hold of it (she credits all the days at the gym for this) and the driver let go and drove off, a bit of a shock as we walk that road all the time and this was about 7.15pm. |

The other night we were coming home on the motorbike up Soi 56 and there was a guy waving a sword off to the side of the road. he was in front of a house and I imagine he was drunk and staggering around.
Lucky for me there was nobody in the oncoming lane and I gave him a wide berth. but it's still a little scary. _________________ Foto
