Definitely interested - your problems now may help to avert a crisis when I eventually make the big move. _________________ Green Army position 15

You will of course run into a lot of problems when you wish to move to another country, but also a lot of good and nice experiences.
Where do I pay my el. bills, water bills etc.
How do I get a telephone line, taxi, drinking water cans etc. etc.
Language barriers can drive you mad sometimes, but after a while you start to understand how it all works.
I keep on asking myself; why did I wait so many years before I finally made the jump over here.
I still don't know the answer but I am really very happy with my life in Hua Hin and don't regret I did it.
Welcome to Hua Hin all of you and I hope we'll meet some time. _________________ I intend to live forever -- so far, so good. |

Went to hull to get non imm O visa (single entry). reaaly helpful, in and out in 10 mins with visa.
make sure when you go in on non imm visa you have proof of exit status (they dont like 1 way tickets). We got a cheapie out to Malaysia towards end of 90 days just in case with Air Asia. |

You will not have a problem with a one-way ticket at BKK airport, or indeed any land crossing thereafter with no proof of onward journey, as long as you have a proper visa - Tourist or Non O.
The requirement about having proof of a return ticket or onward travel from Thailand only applies if you're entering on a 30 day visa exemption stamp, when it's more likely that the airline will not let you board, rather than Imm in Thailand refusing you entry in BKK (although they can in this instance).
Maybe the airline will question you at check-in, but just show your Non O visa and you'll be fine. (I appreciate you're being doubly careful and good luck to you for that, but the Malaysian ticket isn't necessary. If in doubt, call the Thai Embassy. They'll confirm this).
I flew one-way here when I first came over 9 years ago on a Tourist Visa - no problem. Since then I've flown back 5 times from the UK on my return leg (holding ether Tourist or Non Imm visas) and there's never been even an eyebrow raised at check-in or Thai Imm - no proof of onward travel. It's perfectly legal in these circumstances.
PS, the only place, other then at check-in, where people on 30 day visa exemption stamps are having problems is at Aranya Prathet, coming in from Cambodia. They are insisting on proof of an airline ticket out of Thailand before the 30 days expires. In fact, there have been reports recently that Aranya are not allowing any more 30 day entries, full stop. These are not fully confirmed yet. _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". George Best. |

BTW Niggle,
If you havn't already, take a look at:
http://www.expathuahin.com/
There's a wealth of information there about relocating over here. All the kinds of things that Norseman mentioned.
Good luck with your move. I'm sure it will be fine, although your heart may be in your mouth at the time. I know mine was as I walked through the departure gate at Heathrow and left family and friends behind at the airport. It might be like a bungee jump sometimes - you fall occasionally, but you'll always bounce back up _________________ "I spent a lot of my money on booze, birds and fast cars - the rest I just squandered". All spot on info. I have never been asked for a return ticket in over 20 entries to Thailand. (10 from Europe and US).
I am not sure where you are coming from but metal potato mashers and OXO cubes, Marmite and Bovril are always wanted here. A few bottles of Bishop' Finger would go down well aswell.
If you can change the Malaysia cheapy to 90 days from entry you can use it to do a border crossing to stamp your passport which you will need to do unless you have retirement visa. A couple of nights in Penang seeing the sites and stuffing Indian Curry down your neck must be better than the slow minibus to Ranong and the long tail with no life jackets to Victoria Point only to be accosted by ten year old mobsters selling you sex aids, buffalo shit cigarettes and meths with Gin written on the bottles. _________________

I've been described as a pest so many times I must be pestilence although there have been times that my breath has smelt of death. Now I'm confused _________________ Call a place paradise - kiss it goodbye |
